Flown in Boeing 747 of Cathay Pacific on a flight remembering the 40th Anniversary of VJ Day from Gatwick to Hong Kong Boeing 747 Pilot Captain Robert Wilkinson personally Signed by the Pilot Captain Robert Wilkinson and by Alex Vraciu US fighter Ace 4th ranking and Rear Admiral Richard H O Kane died 16th February 1994 was a United States Navy Submarine commander in WW11, who received a Medal of Honor for his service on the Tang. He also served on the Wahoo, as executive officer and approach officer. He participated in more successful attacks on Japanese shipping than any other submarine officer during the war. O Kane was captured by the Japanese when Tang was sunk in the Formosa Strait by her own flawed torpedo (a circular run of a Mark 18) during a surface night attack on October 24 25, 1944 also Signed by Major General C R Bond USAF WW11 Ace with 9 ½ victories. details enclosed. Personally Signed by Air Marshall W A Bishops Son Art Bishop and Lt Edgar Percival. Australian Edgar Percival was a WW1 Fighter Pilot who served with 60 Sqn, Commanded by AVM Billy Bishop VC in France and then with 111 Sqn in Palestine. During the 1920s he operated many former WW1 aircraft in Australia and in 1931 founded Percival Aircraft, famous for the Gull, Mew Gull and Vega Gull, which built nearly 3000 proctors for military use in WW11. This cover was taken by courier from Estourmel in France to Wildenrath in Germany on the 2 June 1977, the 60th Anniversary of the attack that led to the award of the Victoria Cross to Billy Bishop. It was later flown to London by No 60 Sqn Subsequently Flown by Air Canada across the Atlantic to Toronto and back to London. RAF. Flt Lt R. Wolton 153 Sqn Died 1993, Battle of Britain FIt. Lt. Ludwik A. Martel 603 Fighter Sqn. 1940. Battle of Britain. A Mid 18th Century English carved Roccoco frame of large proportions, formerly The Royal Collection, Buckingham Palace.The rectangular central mirror plate with cavetto sight edge, the lower section centred with a boldly carved Green Man mask, flanked by scrolling foliage and leaf mouldings running to elaborately carved, pierced and applied rocaille scallopshell cartouche corners, continuous scrolling foliage and stylised acanthus leaves with entwined flower heads and c-scrolls in bold relief, graduated pierced rocaille scallopshell cartouche centres, surmounted with cresting cartouche centre and foliate corners.carved limewood/pine, (stripped and limed)stamped G R V/B P (twice on the reverse) Provenance:Private Collection, Oxfordshire Royal Collection, Buckingham Palace Dimensions:87 in (H) x 57.5 in (W) Lot Essay: The frame has been stripped and limed. This lends to the frame having a contemporary feel, and revealing a fascinating insight and appreciation into the 18th century craftsmen's methods and practices, the elaborate composition centred at the base with the Green Man, a symbol of rebirth. The boldly carved rocallie scallopshell cartouches are entwined with overlapping foliage giving a rare lyrical quality to the overall scheme and adds to the grandeur associated with the frame's importance, being formerly in the Royal Collection and provenance to Buckingham Palace.
