Property of a deceased's estate 2007 Honda CRF 250XRegistration no. WX07 PZJFrame no. JH2ME11AX6M200778Engine no. unable to locateHonda's family of CRF competition-orientated four-stroke off-roaders commenced in 2000, replacing the preceding series of CR two-strokes. The first model released was the CRF450R, followed in 2004 by the CRF250R, both intended for moto-cross competition. Both of them would prove highly successful in that sport, the larger model being voted 'Best Motocrosser' by Cycle World magazine for eight consecutive years (2002-2009). Designated by an 'X' suffix, enduro models also featured in the range and came equipped with electric starting. The CRF250X's four-valve 'Unicam' (SOHC) engine was based on that of the R model and could rev past 12,000rpm – some going for a 250cc four-stroke single. The engine and transmission oils were kept separate in this engine, which went into an aluminium twin-spar frame, based on that of the R model and equipped with similarly top quality Showa suspension. This CRF 250X was acquired in 2014 and appears well used: there is some corrosion throughout, and it is believed that the graphics have been replaced. Prior to its owner's death the Honda had been dry-stored for approximately 12 months. Following a period of inactivity, the machine will require re-commissioning to a greater or lesser extent and thus is sold strictly as viewed. The machine is offered with expired MoT certificates; a V5C registration document; and an original owner's maintenance manual. Footnotes:As with all Lots in the Sale, this Lot is sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness, and originality prior to bidding.Lot to be sold without reserve. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Lot 463

1951/52 AJS 7R 350cc Racing MotorcycleFrame no. 1478Engine no. 52/7R 104•Iconic over-the-counter racer•Offered from the private collection of the late R J Gardiner•Got running in June 2021 after 18 years inactivity Built from 1948 to 1963, Associated Motor Cycles' AJS 7R - known as the 'Boy Racer' - was one of the most successful over-the-counter racing motorcycles of all time. Almost all of Britain's road-race stars of the 1950s and 1960s rode a 7R at some stage of their careers and the model remains a major force in classic racing today, being highly sought after by competitors and collectors alike. The 7R was conceived as a customer machine for sale to private owners but was also campaigned by the works team.Although a new design by Phil Walker, the 7R, with its chain-driven overhead-camshaft, was very reminiscent of the AJS 'cammy' singles of pre-war days. Despite the fact that the 7R was not, initially, as powerful as its main rivals - the Velocette KTT and Junior Manx Norton – its robust and simple construction endeared the model to the privateer responsible for his own maintenance. While the duplex loop frame and Teledraulic front fork remained essentially unchanged throughout production, the engine underwent almost continuous revision, latterly under the supervision of Jack Williams. To this end the valve angle was progressively narrowed; the inlet port downdraft angle made steeper; the crankshaft strengthened; and, in 1956, engine dimensions changed from the original long-stroke 74x81mm bore/stroke to the 'squarer' 75.5x78mm, permitting higher revs. AMC's own gearbox (also used on the Manx Norton) replaced the previous Burman in 1958, while engine development continued almost to the end of production, by which time the 7R was putting out around 41bhp. There was also a works-only three-valve 'triple knocker' - the 7R3A - which Rod Coleman used to win the 1954 Isle of Man Junior TT, while a Matchless-badged 500cc version of the production 7R – the G50 – was introduced towards the end of 1958. The AJS 7R was passed to the current vendor by his father, the late R J Gardiner, whose collection of ISDT and SSDT competition motorcycles was sold by Bonhams in April 2019. This machine consists of a 1951 frame, 1952 engine, and 1949 gearbox. Its history is not known. Dry stored in R J Gardiner's private museum and not run for 18 years, the AJS was re-commissioned in June 2021 (fresh oil and petrol; float needle unstuck) and fired up easily on the starting rollers. Downsizing enforces its sale. Included in this Lot are copies of marque-related literature; a copy AJS spares list; The Classic Motorcycle (June 1986); and The AJS 7R by Mick Walker.Footnotes:As with all Lots in the Sale, this Lot is sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness, and originality prior to bidding. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Lot 345

Property of a deceased's estate 1989 Suzuki GSX-R750 SlingshotRegistration no. G805 OEOFrame no. GR7AA-102138Engine no. R716-105404Suzuki rewrote the 750-class rulebook when it launched the GSX-R750 back in 1985. The Gixxer's development had been heavily influenced by lessons learned from the works TT F1 and Endurance racers; lighter than a 600 and as powerful as a 1000, it made all other super-sports 750s seem flabby and slow. Like its predecessor, this new-for-1988 second generation GSX-R benefited from experience gained in racing, featuring a much stiffer frame and swinging arm; larger-diameter forks; larger front brakes; 4-pot brake callipers; 17' wheels; and a more aerodynamically efficient fairing. The engine had a shorter stoke; bigger valves; larger oil radiator; 4-into-2 exhaust system; and 36mm flat-slide 'Slingshot' carburettors that gave the model its nickname. One of the modern era's few instant classics, the GSX-R750 has been a huge commercial success for Suzuki and enjoys cult status today. Now more than 30 years old, many early GSX-Rs have suffered at the hands of successive owners, a state of affairs that has resulted in well preserved examples becoming increasingly sought after by collectors. Currently displaying a total of 26,794 miles on the odometer, this Slingshot last ran in July 2020 and has been dry-stored since August 2020 when the late owner passed away. There is some corrosion present, and the bodywork shows signs of repairs. Following a period of inactivity, the machine will require re-commissioning to a greater or lesser extent and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Offered with a V5C document.Footnotes:As with all Lots in the Sale, this Lot is sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness, and originality prior to bidding.Lot to be sold without reserve. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Ex-David Jefferies 2001 Yamaha 998cc R1 V&M Superstock Racing MotorcycleRegistration no. WU51 JVMFrame no. JYARN041000018087Engine no. *N503E-023019*•Used by David Jeffereis to contest the 2001 British Superstock Championship•Prepared and entered by V&M Racing•Known ownership historyLack of sponsorship for the teams he was contracted to saw Isle of Man TT star David Jefferies forced to concentrate on the British Superstock Championship in 2000 and 2001. Riding for Tim Ford's 02+ team, and with Page3.com sponsorship, he had won the championship in 2000 and signed to race Ducatis in the British Superbike Championship in 2001, only for the sponsorship to be withdrawn at the last minute. Jefferies was fortunate enough to land a ride with V&M to contest the British Superstock Championship again riding a Yamaha R1, while at the same time continuing his association with the TT and the Irish road races. In a cruel twist of fate, the outbreak of foot and mouth disease on the UK mainland meant that the TT and the Irish races would be cancelled, depriving DJ of his major source of income. There was more bad news: Suzuki's new GSX-R1000 was faster than the now three-year-old Yamaha R1. Suzuki-mounted Aussie Paul Young won the first five rounds of the championship, and it was not until the sixth round at Thruxton that Jefferies managed to get on the podium. In David Jefferies – the Official Biography by Stuart Barker, Jack Valentine is quoted as telling his rider, by way of motivation: 'Right David, we're in the GSX-R cup, but with you on a Yamaha. If you finish second, then that's like a win. Everybody in the game knows you're totally underpowered.'Jefferies first win of the season came in the seventh round at Oulton Park and he took another win at Cadwell Park when Suzuki-mounted John Crockford crashed out. According to MCN: 'It was a race that summarised the season so far for the Yorkshire man – he had to ride the wheels off his Yamaha to keep up with the GSX-R1000s and hope that one of their riders made a mistake.' At the season's end DJ finished 2nd overall in the British Superstock Championship. The R1 offered here is David Jefferies' 2001 British Superstock Championship machine. At the end of the 2001 season the Yamaha was sold to Chris Waldron of Swindon and registered to him on 18th October 2001. The R1's next owner was Lee Kitch of Newbury, in whose name it was registered on 29th May 2004. Phil Morris bought the machine from George White Superbike Centres of Swindon on 19th March 2007 (invoice on file). Signed by David Jefferies, the machine is offered with a substantial history file.Footnotes:As with all Lots in the Sale, this Lot is sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness, and originality prior to bidding. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Lot 483

Property of a deceased's estate 1910 Triumph 3½hpRegistration no. SV 4316Frame no. 152324Engine no. 8564-4-2The first Triumph motorcycle of 1902 used a Belgian Minerva engine, but within a few years the Coventry firm - originally a bicycle manufacturer founded by German immigrants Siegfried Bettman and Maurice Schulte - was building its own power units. The first of these - a 298cc single-cylinder sidevalve - arrived in 1904. This first engine was not without its weaknesses, pistons and bores wore out quickly and the curious 'tandem down-tube' frame in which it was installed broke, but these shortcomings were soon sorted and within a couple of years 'Triumph' was a byword for reliability. The famous 3½hp model first appeared in 1907. Originally of 453cc, its sidevalve engine was enlarged to 476cc in 1908 and finally to 499cc in 1910 before being superseded by the 4hp model in 1914. This early Triumph motorcycle was previously owned by one Reginald Connett of Berkshire (from 8th June 1993) and before him by Mr A R Taylor. Formerly registered 'LW 3193', the machine comes with two Pioneer Certificates issued in 1987 and 1995 respectively. The accompanying history file also contains old/current V5C documents; a quantity of MoTs (most recent expired June 2012); photocopy instruction books; assorted correspondence; and a selection of photographs of the Triumph competing in the Pioneer Run and Banbury Run.Footnotes:As with all Lots in the Sale, this Lot is sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness, and originality prior to bidding. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
