A good, unusual signed 9 x 7 photograph by both King George V and Prince Albert individually, the image showing them standing together, in Naval uniform, in full length poses on board HMS Neptune alongside a senior officer, probably Sir Francis Bridgeman. Signed by the King (`George R I`) to a clear area at the base of the image and dated HMS "Neptune" May 1912 in his hand. Signed by the future King George VI, Prince Albert (`Albert`) with his name alone to a clear area of the image. Matted in the original gilt card matt to an overall size of 13 x 11. Some slight scuffing and age wear to the matt, otherwise VG The photograph was taken during King George V`s visit to the Home Fleet in 1912. HMS Neptune served as the Flagship of the Home Fleet from May 1911-May 1912 with the Royal visit taking place as her tenure in that role came to an end. Prince Albert is seen shortly after he had entered the Britannia Royal Bavy College at Dartmouth, after infamously finishing bottom of the class at the Royal Naval College Osborne. An excellent signed Christmas greetings card by both King George VI and Queen Elizabeth individually, the slim 4to stiff cream folding card featuring a photograph to the inside of the King and Queen standing together in a full length pose with their two young daughters, Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret, and a small dog at their side. Photograph by Marcus Adams and signed by him in pencil to the lower mount. Signed by both King George VI (`George R.I.`) and Queen Elizabeth (`Elizabeth R`) in dark fountain pen ink immediately beneath the photograph and dated 1939 in the King`s hand. With blue ribbon and gold embossed crown and initials G R E to the front cover. Accompanied by the original Registered envelope hand addressed by King George VI and signed by him with his initials (`G R I`) in the lower left corner. BADEN-POWELL ROBERT: (1857-1941) British Lieutenant General, founder of the Scout movement. A printed 8vo menu for a Farewell Dinner to Baden-Powell hosted by the Staff of the South African Constabulary at their Headquarters, Johannesburg, 14th February 1903, signed (`R Baden Powell`) in bold dark fountain pen ink to the inside front cover, and also signed by over twenty members of the South African Constabulary. The front cover of the menu is slightly faded, although legible, and the folding edge of the menu has been re-inforced with sellotape. Together with a small selection of unrelated A.Ls.S. etc., by Dighton Probyn VC, Princess Helena and Detective Insector W. H. Thompson (signed hardback edition of I Was Churchill`s Shadow) etc. FR to about VG, 5
MONTGOMERY B. L.: (1887-1976) British Field Marshal of World War II. L.S., B. L. Montgomery, General, Eighth Army, one page, 8vo, Sicily, 15th August n.y. (1946), to Mrs. Martha Poppitt. The text of the letter is in the hand of Montgomery`s Aide, Captain J. R. Henderson. Montgomery states that he has `read with great interest the excellent poem written by your son in the Coldstream Guards. I hope you have good news from him and his brother.` Accompanied by the front panel of the Air Mail letter card envelope, hand addressed and signed by Henderson. Both the letter and envelope are neatly laid down to separate cards, about VG
[WORLD WAR II]: MOULTON JAMES L. (1906-1993) British Major-General of World War II. Moulton formed Royal Marines 48 Commando and commanded them during D-Day, 1944. Poignant A.L.S., J. L. Moulton, three pages, 8vo, 48 (RM) Commando, B.L.A., 24th July 1944, to Lt. R. D. Curtis. Written in pencil, Moulton conveys sad news as the result of an investigation, `The circumstances of your brother`s death were that he was wounded early on D Day, received immediate medical treatment and was then sent to the Beach Dressing Station for further care and evacuation to England. At the Beach Dressing Station he must have died of his wounds. He was buried in the vicinity of the beach, his grave is in a war cemetery and has been properly marked and cared for.` Moulton continues to give his personal recollections of Curtis, `Geoff is a great loss. He was a promising officer and a grand chap. He was always cheerful and keen. I shall long remember him….in the trying climate, discomfort and hard work, he was always to the fore and always ready with a joke or a laugh when the rest seemed depressed. You may have heard that his troop commander, who was also with him in Sicily, was also killed on D-Day. The loss of lives like these is hard to bear, they were the price we paid for the success of our landings. In that success their leadership and bravery paid no small part.` Accompanied by the original envelope (FR), also signed by Moulton. VG Temporary Lieutenant Edward Geoff Curtis of the Royal Marines 48 commando participated in Operation Overlord and the Normandy Landings, 6th June 1944, and died of his wounds.

ROE ALLIOTT VERDON: (1877-1958) English Pioneer Pilot and Aircraft Manufacturer. Vintage signed postcard photograph depicting Roe standing in a three quarter length pose by the propeller of his aircraft at the 1910 Blackpool aviation meeting. Signed (`A. Verdon Roe`) in fountain pen ink with his name alone to a light area at the base of the image. With an A.N.S., with his initials A V R, to the verso, in full, `This uncovered fuselage triplane was built in a few days after the best triplane we ever built was burnt on its way to this meeting together with another triplane.` Together with a second vintage signed postcard photograph, the composite image showing Roe with a model aircraft, winner of the Daily Mail competition in April 1907, and the second image showing an AVRO plane in flight. Signed by Roe in bold blue fountain pen ink with his name alone to a clear area at the base of the image. VG, 2
FARMAN HENRI: (1874-1958) French Aviator, Aircraft Designer and Manufacturer. A.L.S., H Farman, two pages, 8vo, n.p., 20th December 1947, to a gentleman (A. R. Malfanti), in French. Farman states that he won’t be able to attend a celebration given by Broken Wings, although continues ‘I am therefore offering you, as an appropriate contribution, a picture as a prize in the tombola. The picture was hung at the Salon of 1947, and was picked out by Guiraud de Lesola, chairman of the National Association of Fine Arts’. Together with an interesting selection of original vintage photographs and printed ephemera relating to Farman, two of the images showing him seated in the cockpits of early aircraft, newspaper articles, menus (2), invitation cards to various events held on the anniversaries of Farman’s pioneering flights etc. Generally VG, 28
ALCOCK JOHN (1892-1919) English Pilot & BROWN ARTHUR WHITTEN (1886-1948) British Navigator, together they completed the first successful non-stop transatlantic flight, June 1919. An unusual 8vo printed brochure for the Distribution of Prizes to the winners of the Great Model-Making Competition, in conjunction with an Exhibition of Famous War Models at Oxford Street, London, on 10th July 1919, signed to the inside by both Alcock (`J. Alcock`) and Brown (`A. W. Brown`) individually, who presented the prizes. Both men have signed their names in fountain pen ink beneath their portraits. Accompanied by seven related T.Ls.S. by the organisers to Mr. J. R. Baker, regarding his entry of a model of a Handley-Page aeroplane into the competition and subsequent first prize in the Junior Section, in one letter inviting him to the prize giving presented by Alcock and Brown and in anotheradvising him of his winners cheque for £25 and informing him that his model will be presented to the Prince of Wales. Rare in this form. Some light staining and minor overall surface creasing to the brochure, and more extensive foxing and age wear to the letters, FR to G, 8 Alcock & Brown had accomplished the First Direct flight across the Atlantic in a Vickers-Vimy-Rolls aeroplane the month before the prize giving event, on 14-15th June 1919.
DOBSON ROY: (1891-1968) British Aircraft Designer of the Lancaster Bomber, one of the most successful aircraft of World War II. T.L.S., Roy H. Dobson, one page, 8vo, Middleton, Manchester, 16th November 1956, to Mr. S. Booth, on the printed stationery of A. V. Roe & Co. Ltd. Dobson thanks his correspondent for writing to him and requesting his autograph, `I was interested to know that you have a good collection which has been accumulated over the past thirty years.` Together with Charles Richard Fairey (1887-1956) British Aircraft Manufacturer. Fountain pen ink signature (`C R Fairey`) on a card. A minor area of discoloration only slightly affects the signature. Also including Robert H. Mayo (1891-1957) British Aircraft Designer, technical adviser to Imperial Airways. D.S., R H Mayo Capt., two pages, folio, n.p. (Air Ministry), 22nd June 1918, being an official typed report, `Twenty-Fourth Weekly Report on Armoured Machines. R.A.E. armoured two seater pusher "Ram"`, signed by Mayo to both pages, accompanied by a similar document signed by Alec Ogilvie (1882-1962) British Pioneer Aviator, British Aviators Certificate Number 7, 1910. COATES ERIC: (1886-1957) English Composer, remembered for the film score to The Dam Busters (1954) including the famous main title march. [APOLLO-SOYUZ]: FORD GERALD R. (1913-2006) American President 1974-77. Signed colour 9 x 6 photograph, the image depicting the President standing in a full length pose in a room of the White House examining models of spacecraft and surrounded by various crew members of the Apollo-Soyuz project including Alexei Leonov, Vladimir Shatalov, Tom Stafford and Donald Slayton. Signed (‘Gerald R Ford’) in bold blue ink with his name alone to a light area at the head of the image. Matted in black above a printed description and framed and glazed in a silver coloured metal frame to an overall size of 13 x 13. VG
[VALENTINO RUDOLPH]: (1895-1926) Italian Actor and Sex Symbol. A silver coloured metal cigarette case with a machine turned art deco design, stamped with the initials R V G to a small square at the front and previously belonging to Valentino. With small hallmark (800 RH) to the inside. Some light overall tarnishing and minor age wear, about VG Valentino`s surname at birth was Guglielmi.

INDIANA ROBERT: (1928- ) American Pop Artist. A.L.S., R Indiana, one page, 4to, Vinalhaven, Maine, 26th September 1974, to Mr & Mrs Robert Allen, on the attractive printed stationery of Star of Hope Lodge. Indiana thanks his correspondents for their birthday greetings and explains that he sent the day on Vinalhaven `but had to come down to Portland for the Symphony Orchestra Presentation. Hope you have seen the poster.` Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Indiana. Together with an oblong slim 8vo colour portion of a magazine image boldly signed in black ink by Andy Warhol and individual signatures of LeRoy Neiman and Raphael Soyer on cards associated with their works or galleries. BARRIE J. M.: (1860-1937) Scottish Novelist, created Peter Pan. Fine A.L.S., J M Barrie, one page, 8vo, Strand, London, 15th September 1926, to R. Golding Bright. Penned in a more legible hand than is usually encountered, Barrie writes, `I think that arrangement for Peter Pan at the Winter Gardens Theatre this year would be good, Miss Dickson to be Peter, and in these circumstances they could have the play for this year at flat royalty of 10%.` Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Barrie. Letters by Barrie referring to his most famous creation are extremely rare and desirable. Two file holes appear in the upper edge of the letter, not affecting the text or signature. Both the letter and envelope are neatly inlaid to separate mounts. About VG Barrie refers to the American-born English Actress Dorothy Dickson (1893-1995). One of her earliest stage roles was as Peter Pan in the production that the novelist refers to in his letter.
