A FIRST AND SECOND WORLD WAR DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT GROUP OF SIX TO THE KING'S ROYAL RIFLES. A group of six comprising a George V Distinguished Conduct Medal named to R-8042 Pte G.E Hayward. 1914-15 Star named to R-8042 Pte G.E.Hayward K.R. Rif C. War Medal and Victory Medal similarly named, Second World War Defence Medal, unnamed as issued and Elizabeth II Imperial Service Medal named to George Edward Hayward D.C.M. Mounted as worn on new ribbons.George Hayward was born in 1883, one of ten children to William and Elizabeth Hayward. He served with the 8th (Service) Battalion was awarded his D.C.M. in October 1916 'For Conspicuous gallantry during operations. He rescued an officer who was lying wounded in an exposed position in front of our line, dragging him to cover in a shell-hole, and probably saving his life. (London Gazette 20th October 1916). A relative recalled that Hayward was batman to the wounded officer. In 1918 Hayward was himself wounded whilst serving with the 6th Battalion, being awarded Silver War Badge 417374, his dates of service were given as 7th December 1914 to 16th Jun 1918, at the time of discharge he was 23 years old.During the Second World War he was a courier for the War Office 'cycling between places with important documents'. He stayed with the War Office until his retirement in 1959 when he was awarded the Imperial Service Medal for his good work.With copied MiC and research. *CR Medals in good condition on new ribbons.

A FIRST WORLD WAR TRIO AND MEMORIAL PLAQUE TO THE ROYAL LANCASTER REGIMENT. A Great War trio comprising 1914-15 Star named to 9198 Pte F. Lamb R. Lanc R. War Medal and Victory medal similarly named. Memorial plaque named to Frank Lamb. Frank Lamb was born at Cheetham, Manchester. He joined the King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment) and entered the conflict in France on the 15th January 1915. He was killed in action on the 3rd May 1915 whilst with the 2nd Battalion. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial. Mounted for display with copied research. *CR Note inconsistent spelling. Good condition with a great history form the early days of Naval engagements during the Great War.
A 1914-15 STAR TO A CASUALTY WITH THE SPORTSMAN'S BATTALION. A 1914-15 Star named to 3345 Pte M. Teglio R. Fus. With a Lady Cuinliffe-Owen silver medal number 3345. Born on the 10th September 1895, Max Teglio enlisted into the 24th (Service)(2nd Sportsman's) Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers. After four months as a Private he was selected for Officer training being commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant with the Devonshire Regiment, later with the 9th Battalion of the Worcestershire Regiment in Mesopotamia. He died on the 11th April 1917 and is commemorated on the Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery, he was 21 years old. Mounted for display with copied research. *CR Good condition.
TWO FIRST WORLD WAR MEDALS TO AN OFFICER WITH THE SOMERSET LIGHT INFANTRY. A 1914-15 Star named to 3192 Pte G.Durston 12-Lond. R. and a Victory Medal named to 2 Lieut G. Durston. Gilbert Durston from Burnham is recorded joining the War in France on the 9th March 1915 with the 12 Lond R. before being commissioned with the Somerset Light Infantry, he is listed as being wounded on the 9th August 1916 and entitled to a wound stripe. *CR Good condition, unmounted.
A 1914 TRIO TO A CASUALTY WITH THE WELSH REGIMENT. A Great War Trio comprising 1914 Star with '5th August-22nd Nov 1914' clasp named to 10650 Pte H. Tucker 2/Welsh R, War and Victory Medals similarly named. Herbert Tucker is recorded at Council House, Montacute, Somerset, a married man with two older brothers, he was the son of James and Hannah Tucker. Born in 1893 he worked as a general labourer before enlisting on the 6th of February 1912 with the Somerset Light Infantry. During the First World War he served with D Company, of the 2nd Battalion the Welsh Regiment who embarked for France from Southampton aboard the SS Braemar, arriving in France on the 13th August 1914. As part of the initial British Expeditionary Force' Private Tucker, with his Battalion, will have taken part in the 'Battle of the Frontiers' during the early days of the War at Mons, The Aisne and other locations during the mobile phase of the War. He suffered a gun shot wound to his hand on the 2nd of November 1914 (some records say right hand, others the left). He spent time in hospital before being discharged on the 7th January 1915 as physically unfit for war work. He will have been entitled to a wound stripe and a silver war badge. Herbert lived until 1953 and is buried in St Catherine's Churchyard, Montacute. *CR Medals slightly polished in appearance, Star ribbon with two rosettes applied above the clasp. Unmounted.
A FIRST WORLD WAR CASUALTY TRIO TO THE CHESHIRE REGIMENT. A Trio comprising 1914-15 Star named to 2102 Pte R.D. Eccleston L.Pool R. War Medal and Victory Medal to 2. Liut R.D. Eccleston. Reginald Demilow Eccleston was born on the 16th April 1889 at Birkenhead, Cheshire. He attested for service at Prince's Park barracks for a period of four years with the 1/6th Battalion of the King's Liverpool Regiment. On the 17th February 1914 he applied for a Temporary Commission. Reported as 'sick in the field' on the 8th March but soon returned to service fighting at Hill 60 through continual barrage and gas attacks. As a 2nd Lt he joined the 16th (Service) Battalion (2nd Birkenhead) The Cheshire Battalion, one of the Bantam Battalions. After an intense period of marching and trench duties he became unwell and spent time in hospital. Clearly in a bad state his symptoms were listed as 'Loss of confidence, personal demons, excessive stammering and constant bouts of shivering. Finally declared unfit for service relinquishing his commission on the 24th November 1916. He was issued Silver War Badge 3282. He died at the age of 62 on the 11th July 1951. Private Hall also served during the First World War and will have been entitled to a pair, also being recorded with number 4257190, he is recorded with the Second Battalion, this clasp is confirmed to his Medal Index card. A FIRST WORLD WAR TRIO AND MEMORIAL PLAQUE TO THE ESSEX REGIMENT. A Great War trio comprising 1914-15 Star named to 7539 L. Cpl E.J. Brand 17- Lond. R. War Medal and Victory Medal similarly named to Brand as 2nd Lieutenant. Memorial plaque named to Eric Jermyn Brand. Eric Jermyn Brand received his Commission in November 1917, travelling to Egypt before returning to action in France. He was killed in action on the 23rd August 1918 whilst fighting with the first Battalion of the Essex Regiment. His commanding Officer A.R.C. Saunders wrote describing him as one of the best of junior Officers of whom all spoke very highly. The local newspaper reported his death 'Killed in action in France while gallantly leading a successful attack on August 23rd'. He is buried at Bucquoy Communal Military Cemetery Extension, Pas De Calais in France, his headstone reads 'Until the Day Breaks'. He was 22 years old. Hudson A. Cyc Corps, War Medal and Victory Medal similarly named. Mounted for display with a selection of cap badges, Tank Association badge and ribbon bar. Henry Hudson was born in 1864, resident of Market Drayton. He served with 2nd Volunteer Battalion of the Shropshire Light Infantry reaching the rank of Corporal. He received his Volunteer Service Award on the 1st January 1909. Apparently receiving Silver War Badge number 2669684 at the age of 55 and dieing in 1922 at the age of 59. Henry's youngest son Alec Manley Hudson was born c.1898, he enlisted at Liverpool and joined the King's (Liverpool Regiment). He died on the 31st July 1917, probably during the battle of Picklem Ridge. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate. Henry's Second youngest son Rupert Hudson was born on the 25th March 1895, he attested at the age of 17 years and 10 months. He entered the conflict on the 31st March 1915 and served with the Army Cyclist Corps, Royal Engineers, Machine Gun Corps, Tank Corps and others. With a collection of 16 aerial reconnaissance photographs and other images. With an extensive album of research. *CR Good condition.
A FIRST WORLD WAR WAR MEDAL TO A CASUALTY WITH THE ROYAL SUSSEX REGIMENT. A Great War War Medal named to 4-1585 Pte W.S. Tizzard R. Sussex R. Private William Stanley Tizzard from East Grinstead in Sussex embarked on the 8th August 1915 for the Balkans, he served with the 1st/4th Battalion and is also recorded with number 200181. He was killed in action on the 29th July 1918. His body having been found at Oulchy Le Chateai now lies in a grave at Raperie British Cemetery Villemontoire, a concentration cemetery. He was 21 years old, he was entitled to a 19154 Star and a Victory Medal. *CR Good condition.

John James Witt was born c. 1895, he enlisted on the 13th January 1915 and served with the 8th (Irish) T.A.Battalion of the King's Liverpool Regiment. A resident of Blackpool, he was a prisoner of war from the 14th November 1916 at Dulem in Germany, having previously been twice wounded on the 5th September 1915 and 18th September 1916, whilst serving in France/Flanders. He was repatriated and demobilised on the 27th March 1919. Mounted for display with copied research. *CR Slightly polished surfaces, well presented.

A PAIR OF FIRST WORLD WAR CASUALTY TRIOS AND PLAQUES TO THE BIGG FAMILY BROTHERS. A Trio comprising 1914-15 Star named to G-3055 L. CPL E.S. Brigg R. Suss.R, War Medal and Victory Medal to Bigg as a Private, Memorial Plaque named to Edward Samuel Bigg and similar trio, the Star named to M4616 J.V, Bigg Ck. Mte. R.N. War Meal and Victory Medal similarly named, Memorial Plaque to John Valentine Bigg. Mounted for display with copied research. Edward was born c. 1888, he attested at Hove for the 9th (Service) Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment. Disembarking for France on the 31st August 1915 and within three weeks was taking part in the Battle of Loos. Edward was killed in this action on the 28th September, initially reported as missing, it was on the 28th that the Battalion withdrew to trenches at Sailiy Les Bourse, a roll was called and 362 other ranks were found to be missing or wounded. He is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, he was 27 years old. The rank of Private is presumably an error. John Valentine Bigg was born on the 20th November. He joined the Royal Navy at Portsmouth on the 5th June 1912. His career in the Navy ended on the 31st May 1916 at the Battle of Jutland. Working as a Cook's Mate aboard H.M.S. Queen Mary. Commanded by vice Admiral Sir John Beatty. Hit by the Seydlitz and Derflinger she blew apart when one or both of the forward magazines blew.There were 57 officers and 1209 men killed. He is commemorated on the Portsmouth naval Memorial, Both brothers are also commemorated on the Brighton War Memorial. *CR Good condition.

He is recorded with numbers 0757 and 51186, being discharged on the 9th February 1924. Mounted for display with copied research. *CR Good condition with only light marking and edge bruise.

Jonathan Cowles was wounded on the 3rd June 1915 and entitled to a wound stripe, wounded for a second time on the 4th November 1918, he fought with the 2nd Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment. His Military Medal was published in the London Gazette on the 25th January 1918, page 1333 for 'Bravery in the Field'. Mounted for display. *CR Good condition.
A FIRST WORLD WAR GROUP OF THREE TO AN OFFICER WITH THE WELSH REGIMENT, TWICE WOUNDED AT MAMETZ WOOD. A group of three comprising 1914-15 Star named to 2. Lieut G.R. Gelder Welsh R. War Medal and Victory Medal to Lieut G.R. Gelder. Mounted in leather case for display and with extensive research and data stick. Born on the 25th February 1896 at Bramley, Leeds, George Robert Gelder served with the 10th (1st Rhondda) Battalion of the Welsh Regiment, entering the conflict in France on the 3rd December 1915. He was wounded for a second time on the 11th July 1916 during an action against the enemy at Mametz Wood in the Somme offensive. An action which took many days and many lives to clear the wood of the enemy On January 29th he was discharged from the army as unfit and relinquished his Commission at this time as permanently unfit for service suffering from Shell Shock and a strained heart. He was issued a Silver War Badge. *CR Stickers attached to front of leather case. Data stick not checked.

A similar pair named to G-69666 Pte O. Brownett The Queen's R. and Memorial plaque to Oliver Brownett. Arthur Brownett was born in Nottingham, enlisting for the Army in Derby and serving with the 1st/4th Battalion (TF) of the Northumberland Fusiliers. His brother Oliver served with the RSC and later the 6th Battalion, The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment). Arthur was killed in action on the 15th September 1916 and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Oliver died of wounds on the 30th March 1918 and is buried at Doullens Communal Cemetery Extension. War Medal and Victory Medal to Horne as a Corporal, and Memorial Plaque 'Walter Ernest Horne'. Walter Horne, a married man from 36 Ernest Road, Canning Town, was born in 1881. He was killed in action on the 22nd March 1918 when serving as a Lance Serjeant with the 11th (Service) Battalion of the Essex Regiment. He was awarded the Military Medal for Bravery in the Field, Gazette 14th August 1917, page 8421. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial. He was 37 years old. Wallis (Or Wallace) Witham was born in 1898, from Thurton in Norwich, he served with the 16th (Service) battalion (Public Schools) Battalion, in January 1917 he suffered with an injury to his right foot, later in the same year he is recorded with the 4th Battalion of the Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex) Regiment and was killed in action on the 10th October 1917. He is commemorated at the Tyne Cot Memorial in Belgium. He was 19 years old. With copied research. *CR Good condition with usual light marks, lacking ribbons.

A group of seven comprising Queen's South Africa Medal with ghost dates with Natal, Orange Free State and Transvaal clasps named to 5316 Pte F. Rutland Glouc Regt. King's South Africa Medal with South Africa 1901 and 1902 clasps to Rutland as a Corporal, 1914 Star named to 5316 C. Sjt F.E. Rutland 1/Glouc R. War Medal and Victory Medal to Rutland as T.W.O. Cl 1. Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to 5316 Q.M. SJT F.E. Rutland and Meritorious Service Medal to Supt Clk F.E. Rutland 1/Glouc. Mounted in two rows as worn. Frederick Ernest Rutland from Cheltenham had a very successful career rising through the ranks from a Private in the Boer War. Enlisting at Bristol on the 7th May 1898 when he was 18 years 11 months old. His Boer War clasps are confirmed to the roll. A Mention in Despatches is recorded in the Gazette for the 24th December 1918 at which time Rutland is recorded in France attached to G.H.Q. 3rd Echelon. (The ribbon shows signs of an oak leaf having been attached). The Meritorious Service Medal was awarded on the 14th October 1919 whilst he was serving with the 1st Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment in France/Flanders. A GROUP OF SIX TO LIEUTENANT COLONEL TUFFIN OF THE 1/33RD AND 16TH PUNJABIS. A group of six comprising British War Medal 1914-1920, unnamed, Indian General Service Medal with Afghanistan N.W.F. 1919 clasp named to Lt R. Tuffin 1/33/PJBS. General Service Medal 1918-62 with Kurdistan clasp named to Lieut R. Tuffin. Indian General Service Medal with North West Frontier Medal 1936-37 named to Major R. Tuffin 3-16 Punjab. War Medal 1939-45 and India Service Medal 1939-34 Medal, unnamed as issued. Born on the 2nd August 1895 at Cowes on the Isle of Wight, he served with the 1/5th (Territorial) Battalion of the Hampshire Regiment during the First World War. Spending the War in India Tuffin then attended the Bangalore Officers Training School being appointed 2nd Lieutenant on the 6th June 1918 rising to the rank of substantive Lieutenant Colonel on the 1st October 1944. By March 1945 at the age of 50 he was deemed medically necessary to return to the United kingdom having seen a varied range of conflicts and engagements which can only have been achieved through a long period of service in India. A FIRST WORLD WAR MILITARY CROSS GROUP OF SIX TO THE ROYAL FUSILIERS. A Great War group of six comprising George V Military Cross, unnamed as issued, 1914-15 Star named to 10780 Sjt F. Howard R. Fus. War Medal and Victory Medal to 2 Lieut F. Howard, Second World War Defence and War Medals unnamed as issued. Frank Howard was born in 1888 enlisting as a Band Boy in the Royal Fusiliers. He entered the War in France on the 19th January 1915 and was Commissioned a Second Lieutenant on the 9th April 1917, he served with the 4th Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment). Wounded on the 20th Jan 1917 during an attack from the south of the Arras-Cambrai road, advancing at 0700 hours the battalion came under heavy shell fire but continued to move forward until they had covered about a mile progressing over a defensive system at Tilloy known as 'The Harp'. The Battalion lost 225 Officers and Men on that day. Howard was awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty 'He led his company in the attack until severely wounded. He refused to be moved back and although only able to crawl he remained in command. When forced to withdraw he organised and made determined efforts to resume the offensive, shortly afterwards becoming unconscious.' His brother was killed in the same action. He suffered with the wound for years to come due to shrapnel embedded in his body and left the Army in 1919. He reenlisted in the Royal Fusiliers 10th (City of London) Battalion (69th Searchlight Regiment)(Territorial) as an Administrative Officer. TWO FIRST WORLD WAR PAIRS TO BROTHERS IN THE DEVONSHIRE REGIMENT AND IRISH GUARDS. A Great War pair comprising War Medal and Victory Medal named to 12491 Pte C Wright Ir Gds and a similar pair named 240503 Cpl P.J. Wright Devon R. Brothers from a Maidstone family. Mounted in a glazed frame, the medals either side of a photograph of the brothers, Colin Wright in uniform. Colin Wright's attested for service on the 9th December 1914, his address at the time was 201 Boxley Road in Maidstone, a married man of 27 years and a paper maker prior to the war he served with the 1st Battalion. His brother Percy Wright was twice wounded on the 27th December 1917 and on the 23rd August 1918 and entitled to a wound stripe on both occasions. The 1891 census records Joseph and Keturah Wright as living at 17 Randall Place in Maidstone with seven daughters and four sons. In 1891 Percy was 6 and Colin 4 years old. 35 x 55 cm. *CR Attractively mounted in a glazed frame.
A SECOND WORLD WAR CASUALTY GROUP OF FOUR TO THE SIKH REGIMENT. A group of four comprising Indian General Service Medal 1936-1939 with 'North West Frontier 1937-39' Clasp named to 15999 Sep Bashir Ahmed 5-11 Sikh R. 1939-45 and Pacific Stars and War Medal all unnamed as issued. Bashir Ahmed enlisted pre-war into the 11th Sikh Regiment and was posted to the 5th Battalion serving on the North West Frontier between 1937 and 1939. Serving in the Second World War he became a Prisoner of the Japanese and died in captivity on the 30th June 1943. He is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial. TWO FIRST WORLD WAR POSSIBLE CASUALTY PAIRS TO A FATHER AND SON. A Great War Pair named to 2576 DVR W.H. Blatchford 2. PNR BN AIF. And a similar pair named to 20542 Pte L.W. Blatchford Dorset R. William Henry Blatchford attested for the Australian Imperial Force on the 25th May 1915, at the time he was a 44 year old labourer from Bodmin in Cornwall. His wife's address being in Crediton, Devon. Medical reports suggest a hernia for which he declined treatment, and also suggest he returned to Australia in September 1919, a note in the Australian archives gives a date of death of the 9th of September 1921, quite possibly from the untreated restricted hernia aggravated by service in the War. (He will not have been entitled to a Memorial Plaque). Leslie William Blatchford was born in 1899, the son of William Henry Blatchford, resident of 11 Exeter Road in Crediton. He served with the 6th Battalion, and was killed in action on the 27th August 1918. The Commonwealth War Graves state his Father as deceased (who also fell), he is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois memorial, he was 19 years old. The names of both are included on the Crediton Parish Church roll of honour and the Crediton Town memorial. A FIRST WORLD WAR TRIO TO THE SUFFOLK REGIMENT. A Great War Trio comprising 1914 Star with clasp named to 6322 Pte A. Elvin 2/Suff R. War Medal and Victory Medal similarly named. Albert Elvin entered the war on the 15th August 1914, his Medal Index Card confirms the award of the 1914 Star. He was reported 'Missing' on the 9th September 1914 and later confirmed as a Prisoner of War at Doeberitz camp outside Berlin having been captured on the 26th August 1914. *CR Good condition, unmounted on new ribbons.
A FIRST WORLD WAR MERITORIOUS SERVICE GROUP OF FOUR TO THE ROYAL BERKSHIRE REGIMENT. A Great War group of four comprising War Medal and Victory Medal named to L-10931 Sjt J.W. Perrior R.Fus, George VI Meritorious Service Medal named to 6447657 Sjt J.W. Perrior R. Berks R. and a George V Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal named to 10931 Cpl J.W. Perrior R. Fus. Remounted as worn on new ribbons.John William Perrior enlisted with the Middlesex Regiment in Hounslow as a boy aged 14 years old in 1901. One of nine sons to Thomas and Mary Perrior of 3 Tivoli Road Hounslow. He transferred to the Royal Fusiliers in 1904 before serving with the Middlesex Regiment from July 1916 to January 1919, by 1920 he was serving in East Prussia and promoted to the rank of Segeant, later Sgt Drummer and Band Sergeant. He was discharged on the 12th September 1922 with a glowing report 'A most reliable, intelligent NCO who has always done remarkably well. Trustworthy and sober, 1st Class musician and side drummer, good athlete, 2nd Class Certificate of Education.' He chose not to leave the Army but stayed in transferring to the Royal Berkshires with whom he stayed until the end of 1925 having completed 21 years service. He seems to have spent the rest of his life in Hounslow living to the age of 80. AN AFGHANISTAN MEDAL 1878-80 WITH KABUL CLASP TO THE 9TH FOOT (NORFOLK REGIMENT). An Afghanistan medal with Kabul clasp named to 1494 Pte R. Dawson 2/9th Foot. Born in Kings Lynn in Norfolk c.1858 and attested in Great Yarmouth for the 9th Regiment of Foot on the 23rd May 1877. Stationed in Kabul he returned to the UK in 1883 where he was discharged to the Reserve after 6 years and 210 days with the colours. Mounted for display with copied research. *CR Good condition.
A FIRST WORLD WAR TRIO AND MEMORIAL PLAQUE TO THE BEDFORDSHIRE REGIMENT. A Great War trio comprising 1914-15 Star named to 15110 Pte G.E. Everest Bedf R. War Medal and Victory medal similarly named. Memorial plaque named to George Edward Everest. Mounted with dog tag and shoulder title. George Edward Everest was born at Woolwich in Kent and enlisted at St Albans whilst living in Coventry. He died on the 23rd January 1916 when serving with C Company of the 1st Battalion. He is buried in Citadel new Military cemetery at Fricourt on the Somme, his headstone reads 'Rest in Peace', he was 28 years old. The Coventry book of remembrance describe the events of that day 'the Battalion were in billets at Bray-sur-Somme. The following day they relieved the Norfolks in a subsector and throughout the coming weeks they were engaged in mining fatigues, cutting the enemy's wire and reconnaissance. The Battalion returned to their billets on January 22nd. On the following day 'C' Company were sent on mining fatigues and whilst carrying out this task Private Everest lost his life'. WIth Memorial plaque to William Hurst Foard. Mounted for display with photograph, cap badge and other items. Framed and glazed, 29 x 69 cm. With delivery boxes, two photographs, copied papers and other items. Lance Serjeant William Foad from Plumstead in London was born in 1898. He served with the 11th (Service) Battalion of the Essex Regiment. He died on the 13th October 1918 and is buried at the Vadencourt Cemetery, Maissemy, his headstone reads 'Until the Day Breaks and the Shadows Flee Away', he was 20 years old. *CR Good condition. A SECOND WORLD WAR GROUP OF SEVEN TO SQUADRON LEADER REED A DECORATED NAVIGATOR WHO TOOK PART IN THE FIRST TWO THOUSAND BOMBER RAIDS. A group of seven comprising OBE on second type military ribbon, 1939-45 Star, Air Crew Europe Star, Defence and War Medals, all unnamed as issued, George VI General Service Medal 1918-62 with Malaya clasp named to Sqn Ldr F.E. Reed RAF, and George VI Air Efficiency Award named to Act Sqd Ldr F.E. Reed R.A.F. Mounted as worn. With Royal Mint box for O.B.E. and Observer's and Air Gunner's Flying Log Book.F.E. Reed's Log Book begins in June 1940 recording Reed as Leading Air Crew 751852 and a qualified Air Observer having enlisted in the REF Volunteer Reserve as a pilot in January 1937. He eventually clocked up over 1,000 hours of flying time including what appear to be 31 operational flights against the enemy. Flying in Wellingtons (DV509) and Stirlings (U9356) with operations over Cologne, Essen, Hamburg, Dortmund, Kiel, Rostock, Bremen and other locations, the comments add details such as 'Blitz' and 'Chased by ME110 Out to Sea' and 'Hot Reception'. Reed took part in the 'Thousand Bomber Rads', the first on the 30th May 1942 'Cologne (Blitz) Firrst 1000 aircraft raid), again on the 1st June 1942 'Operations - Essen. 1000 Aircraft Blitz' and in the air again on the 25th 'Operations-Bremen' when U R 9356 had difficulties ' Wheels would not retract, or A/C climb, bomb dropped in sea & petrol jettisoned'. Some raids are recorded as successful 'Bombed Schiphol Aerodrome: Direct Hit' on the 7th June, others were hampered by mechanical or other difficulties 'Vegetables brought back' on the 7th June suggesting bombs were not dropped on that occasion. After 31 'trips' Reed seems to have reached the end of his tour and the remaining entries are largely described as 'Instructional'.With a photograph of the recipient with what is presumably 214 Squadron before a Stirling Bomber. *CR As worn. TWO FIRST WORLD WAR PAIRS INCLUDING 1914-15 STARS. Two comprising 1914-15 Star And Victory Medal named to 20386 Pte H.C. Piller Worc R. And two comprising 1914-15 Star and War Medal named to 33569 Spr A.R. Nicholson R.E. Horace Charles Piller entered the conflict in France on the 2nd May 1915. Arthur Romney Nicholson also entered the conflict in France on the 6th November 1915, he suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was discharged back to service on the 27th September 1917. A FIRST WORLD WAR TRIO TO A CASUALTY WITH THE 5TH BATTALION OF THE DORSET REGIMENT. A Great War Trio comprising 1914-15 Star named to 11094 Pte W.J. Toomer Dorset R. War Medal and Victory Medal similarly named. William John Toomer was born near Shaftesbury and lived at Fontmell Magna, he rose to the rank of Lance Corporal but was killed in action on the 26th September 1916 whilst serving with the 5th Battalion. He was previously wounded on the 27th September 1915 whilst serving in the Mediterranean with the same Battalion. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. A group of three comprising France and Germany Star and War medal, both unnamed as issued, and an army Emergency Reserve Medal named to 22282644 S.Sgt W.J. Cherry R. Sigs. Mounted as worn. This variant of the Efficiency Medal was Short lived being awarded between 1953 and 1967. *CR As worn, slight marks only.

John Holloway was also recorded with number 331540. G-63629 Pte C.A. Mansfield The Queen's R. Charles Mansfield was also entitled to an Indian General Service Medal. 4654 Sepoy Gharib Khan 1-55 Coke's Rfls. And 22243 Pte A. Reeves C. Gds who ws wounded on the 1st June 1918. A BRITISH EMPIRE MEDAL GROUP OF FIVE TO INSPECTOR OF RIGGERS H.M. DOCKYARD. A group of five comprising George VI British Empire Medal named to Ralph William Hooker, 1914-15 Star named to J.3821 R.W. Hooker A.B. R. N. War Medal and Victory Medal named to Hooker as Leading Seaman, and Second World War Defence Medal. Born on the 26th January 1893 in Eastchurch Isle of Sheppey, Kent. He joined the Royal Navy at H.M.S. Ganges on the 21st February 1909 as a 16 year old. He was invalided from the Navy on the 9th September 1919 at which time he began working in the Sheerness Dockyard in the mooring and rigging department becoming an Acting Inspector of Rigging. His B.E.M. was reported in the Gazette on the 31st December 1943. 'Ralph William Hooker, Acting Inspector of Riggers, H.M. Dockyard, Sheerness, Length of Service 23 years. Mr Hooker has shown great zeal and ability in organising and carrying out important mooring work with unfailing loyalty and cheerfulness in various areas from Dover to Scapa, and also under most difficult conditions in Iceland from May to November 1941.
