Also unnamed Victory Medal. It appears that the British War Medal recipient initially enlisted after the outbreak of 3129 war PTE William Hirst Manchester REGT he was recorded as a deserter on 13th August 1914 and then re-enlisted on 3 September 1914 as 51420 DVR William Hirst Royal Engineers.

Boer War British Kings South Africa Medal Essex Regiment, with two clasps South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902 awarded to 5292 PTE R Ward Essex Regt, 1 Battalion Essex Regiment deployed to South Africa in December 1899 and was involved in the engagements Relief of Kimberley, Paardeburg, Diefontein, Diamond Hill and Belfast. The Battalion then embarked on garrison duty until the end of the war in 1902.
