Full red crushed morocco binding by Bayntun, gilt decorated spine compartments, gilt portrait of author to upper board and facsimile signature to lower; all edges gilt. Frontispiece with tiny repaired tear, engraved title page and 43 further plates by R. Seymour, W.R. Buss and Phiz (H.K. Browne). A clean, crisp copy. This copy contains two plates by Buss at pages 69 and 74, which were cancelled by Dickens in later issues and replaced with plates by "Phiz".
A Furstenberg Figure of a Seated Miner (Einmannbohrer) circa 1770-95 from the ' Grosse Bergbande' series designed by Simon Feilner and modelled by Georg Leimberger, seated chisseling at a rockface wearing a grey and red hat and tunic over a white jerkin, with a black apron and buff leggings 17cm., 6Nin. hammer missing, minor damages Simon Feilner's designs for the series of eleven large miners date from 1757 and the first models were completed by his uncle, Johann Georg Leimberger, during the same year. Due to difficulties with the firing, the series was not completed until the second half of 1758 and Feilner put the finishing touches to the models. Five: Military Cross and bar, George V, un-named, 1914 star with clasp (2nd Lieut W.E. Molesworth R. Muns Fus), British War and Victory Medals (Capt W.E. Molesworth R.F.C) Italy Al Valore Militare. Fine to Very Fine, mounted as worn, with corresponding miniatures. Offered with an emotive 15 page manuscript "Copy of the Diary of Lieut W.E. Molesworth Royal Munster Fusiliers, From October 14th to December 26th 1914" commencing "Received orders to proceed to front from Depot Tralee at 2.AM and gives daily notes from then, through action near Ypres and concludes December : "22nd At 6.30 am ordered to make an attack at dawn and drive the enemy out of their trenches at any cost....got up to about 200 yds and were ordered to charge, met a tremendous fire from the enemy which mowed us down, and we were forced to retire..." "Captain Pemberton Killed, and Lieut Young and Capt Pakenham wounded in the chest, Maj J. in the leg, Major Day in the Knee. I went out to try and get him back to us, crawling along when I was wounded in the left ankle.." he then made his way back meeting 2 stretcher bearers who took him to the Sikh field ambulance, and in turn back to Bethune, 24th December at Boulogne hospital, 25th December "...received the king's Xmas card also Princess Mary's present".
An ERII State Trumpeter's 2 part embroidered trumpet banner, each part of crimson damask embroidered with the Royal Arms, motto and supporters with a flying angel and "E" and "R" on either side, all within a floral broder with Union sprays at each corner, gilt tasselled edges, blue silk lining, 20" x 16" with suspension rings to the top edge. Good Condition the colours generally bright (slight wear)
A rare 1768 fur mitre cap of a Pioneer of Infantry, brown fur with dark red cloth inset at the back, large red painted silver plated ear to ear plate, embossed with Royal Crest on a trophy of axes and handsaws with "G" and "R" on either side, all within an ornametal motto scroll "Nec Aspera Terrent", leather edging, hessian lining. Good Condition (some wear to fur, lining partly unstitched)
A Georgian naval officer's dirk, diamond section blade 83/4" blued and gilt for its entire length with trophy of arms and foliate decoration, turned ribbed ivory hilt, small oval guard, the gilt scabbard with floral foliate and rayburst engraving, 2 hanging rings, by R. A rare .68" Paget rifled percussion carbine, of the Queen's Own (Staffordshire) Yeomanry Cavalry; 311/2" overall, barrel 153/4" with inspector's marks at breech and 2 folding leaf rear sights; flat stepped lock stamped with crowned "V-R"; walnut fullstock with stock maker's name "J Beavon", the butt with "Pimlico 1860" store keeper's mark; regulation brass mounts, the butt plate tang engraved "Q.O.Y.C/M/44"; saddle bar and ring on left side; swivel ramrod. A good .62" late model Baker flintlock rifle, 46" overall, twist barrel 301/4" with Tower proofs and folding rearsight, flat lock with bevelled ring neck cock, the plate engraved with crowned "GR" and "Tower"; walnut fullstock with original dark varnished finish, the butt stamped with ordnance store keeper's mark and "IV C R", the fore end with ramrod slit, standard pattern brass mounts, including rounded patch box cover; sling swivels; steel ramrod; fitted with a later leather sling.
