A gilt brass carriage clock, R & Co, Paris, circa 1900, with eight-day strike/repeat gong striking movement and platform lever escapement, the white enamel chapter ring with Arabic numerals applied to a pierced gilt mask, the case with Solomonic columns to the angles, 17cm high, in the original leatherette and velvet lined carry case, 20cm highProvenance: Berwick House, ShropshireCondition Report: The movement is not ticking at time of report, the platform and lever escapement appear to be original - the clock has a key and we have wound it lightly but there is no sustained movement. The push button release. A screw is not attached to secure the handle to the top plate and the case - this is all therefore loose. The screw is jammed in the side of the mechanism and will require releasing and re-siting. There is also a missing finial to the handleThere is dirt and discolouration to the git areas and also pitting. Johnstone, old booksellers catalogue entry tipped on to front pastedown, contemporary blind-stamped calf, re-backed and repaired at corners, 8voQty: (1)NOTESThe title page has had the date (erroneously) corrected in manuscript to 1740 but the publisher's details match Chubb CXLVIII, with the additional description on page 53 about Stony Stratford and the moving of the page numbers on pages 121 and 124 and this would indicate the second issue which Chubb dates to 1721.
