Western Asiatic/Aegean, Ca. 1200-700 BC. A bronze spear with a triangular-shaped blade with a raised midrib, sharpened edges that taper gradually to a pointed tip, short socket, and a tang for insertion into a haft. A matched pair of gold earrings, each of a hoop thickening to intricately decorated spindle-shaped terminals attached to a circular gold plaque with a filigree border set with a garnet cabochon. Ca. 340-325 BC. A ceramic lekanis of the red-figure lid with two female profile heads between palmettes and stylised volutes. The "Ladies of Fashion" with ornate saccoi leaving a chignon projecting at the rear, a spiked stephane, earrings, and necklaces. The lid's knob handle with radiating strokes on top. The black-glazed dish with an inset flange to receive the lid, set on a high hollow foot. For reference see Green, J. Ca. 200 AD. A heavy gold finger ring of a round hoop expanding to support a bezel set with a stone intaglio engraved with a bust of the god Attis depicted as a young male wearing a Phrygian hat. Attis was the consort of Cybele in Phrygian and Greek mythology. His priests were eunuchs, the Galli, as explained by origin myths pertaining to Attis and castration. Attis was also a Phrygian god of vegetation. In his self-mutilation, death, and resurrection he represents the fruits of the earth which die in winter only to rise again in the spring. Imperial Period, 2nd C AD. An bronze military diploma / DOCUMENT fragment dated to the Antonine period; refering to emperor Hadrian as DIVI. The rectangular plaque with a finely incised Latin inscription. Military diplomas were made as an original copy of a document inscribed to a legionary discharging for honourable service within the Roman empire or providing citizenship. Ca. 200-300 AD. A beautiful onyx intaglio of an ovoid form with a flat verso and a bevelled edge. The front of the intaglio is delicately etched with a dual left-facing portrait of Serapis - the Graeco-Egyptian god of fertility and the afterlife - and Isis, the Egyptian god of life, healing, and magic. Serapis presents with a bushy beard and his signature kalathos atop his head, and Isis' feminine countenance is surmounted with a foliate headdress. Cf. Ca. 300-400 AD. A small terra sigillata bowl of a wide body on a pedestal foot. The exterior is decorated with nicely incised double grooves just below the rim. Ca. 300 AD. A beautiful silver ring with a circular band decorated with a central band of X-shaped motifs, flanked by two parallel grooves on each side. The raised, applied bezel is decorated with a border of twisted silver wire and with clusters of three silver granules on each of the four sides. The oval bezel is inset with a beautiful dark purple gem embellished with an intaglio depicting a left-facing male figure holding what appears to be a club in his right hand. A Victorian mahogany circular railway clock, the dial signed B-R (S) John Walker London, with fusee movement and pendulum, dia.37cmPlease note the marks to the dial. It looks as though this has been made up of different clocks, wrong bezel, marks on dial (suggest possible later movement etc). Needs a polish but otherwise condition seems ok. We cannot get it to run for long.

Victorian Union Pacific Railway bowie knife. A large bowie knife, polished clipped blade 12½” (32cm) long, marked "V crown R - Brookes & Crookes - Sheffield" to ricasso and lightly etched with locomotive and “Union Pacific Railway Linked East to West 1869” on one side, heavy brass crossguard, antler grip and scroll embossed sheet white metal pommel. Irish Olympic silver medalist, Irish international hockey cap. The green velvet and gilt bullion cap by T. Lynch & Sons, Westmoreland St. Dublin, with shamrock above crossed hockey sticks to the brow and dated 1907 and 1909. Named 'R. Gregg' to the lining. Richard George Stanhope Gregg (1883-1945) was an Irish international hockey player, he captained Dublin University Hockey Club 1st XI, 1906-07. He represented Leinster and Three Rock Rovers and was a member of the Ireland team that won the silver medal at the 1908 London Olympics.
