CONDITION REPORT: Some minor overall browning with some slight stains. Minor loss to the r/h margin not affecting map printed border.

Important Royal Warrant in the history of the Postal Service – William III – autograph fine letter signed ‘William R’ at head addressed to the Solicitor General^ 2pp large legal folio on paper (appearing to lack a third and final page carrying the date and countersignature^ but the letter is complete)^ granting a pension of £3^500 a year to the Marquis of Carmarthen (later the Duke of Leeds)^ to be paid out of the revenues of the Post Office. Although lacking the third page which would carry the date^ this can be accurately dated to 1694. Carmarthen had a most chequered history. This document represents the highest spot of his career when he was created the Duke of Leeds. Shortly afterwards however^ he was accused of Jacobinism and was largely stripped of his many offices.

America – D P ‘Dolly’ Madison – America’s 1st First Lady rare signature ‘Free D P Madison’ being a free frank on an envelope addressed to the Clerk of the Circuit Superior Court of Orange County^ Virginia^ which once contained legal papers relating to a case she brought against J W Walker and R C Booth^ executors of William (?) Madison^ with further endorsement ‘for postmaster’ in her hand. Further endorsed as having been deposited in the court^ dated August 25th 1845. A rare^ early American signature

Boer War an example of a Queen’s Chocolate tin still bearing some of the chocolate inside as issued under order from Queen Victoria to troops in the Boer War. This has been framed in a presentation case with a poignant letter to the mother of the original intended recipient^ forwarding the tin to her and informing her that her son died at sea on the R S Oreana on August 2nd 1900. Examples of this particular type of tin containing the original chocolate are uncommon
