He landed in France on the 8th November 1915 and was Killed in Action on the 1st July 1916.

Comprising: Queen’s South Africa Medal, three clasps “Cape Colony”, Orange Free State”, “South Africa 1902”, “3238 PTE R BOLTON SCOTS GUARDS”, British War Medal, Victory Medal, “14573 PTE R. BOLTON S. GDS”. Medals mounted for display. Private Robert Bolton was a native of Longton Lancashire and enlisted into the Scots Guards on the 6th February 1900. He saw service in South Africa from February 1902 to October 1902. He remained with the Guards until 1912 when he was discharged. He rejoined the Colours in November 1915 and saw service in France from October 1916 until February 1917 when he returned to UK and admitted to Hospital. He was discharged in February 1919.

Company Quarter Master Sergeant Walter George Hoad enlisted into the Royal Engineers in 1910, he landed in France in October 1916 and was MID 14t December 1917. He remained with the BEF until January 1919. He was awarded the MSM. LG 18th January 1919. Transferring to the Royal Signals he served in Germany with the army of occupation from February 1919 until 1927, when he later that year was posted to India. He left the Army in 1933. His home town was given as Fareham and at the outbreak of WW2 volunteered for service with the HOME Guard.

WW1 2nd Bn East Surrey Regiment Military Cross MID, group of four medals & archive.Awarded to Major John Gurdon MC. Comprising: Military Cross, 1914/15 Star, “CAPT J. GURDON E. SURR. R”, British War Medal, Victory Medal, MID, “MAJOR”. The group is mounted for display and accompanied by a selection of original photographs, commissions, a number of personal hand written letters from the front, research etc. Announcement of the Military Cross LG 1st January 1917.Major John Gurdon MC. was born in 1887, the family seat being Sudbury Suffolk. He was commissioned into the militia Bn of the East Surrey Regiment in 1907 and then the 2nd Bn 1909, at the outbreak of the Great War was serving with the Battalion in India. Returning to the UK he landed in France on the 19th January 1915, in September he was given a Staff appointment with the 85th Brigade. He was then posted to the HQ Staff of the 28th Division in the Middle East. In April 1916 he was serving as a Brigade Major with the 63rd Infantry Brigade. For his services he was awarded the Military Cross and retained the rank of Major, in June 1921 he was appointed a Staff Officer at HQ Irish Command and held this post until 23rd March 1922 and retired later that year. A number of the hand written letters are in the hand of Major Gurdon 1915, sent from France and give an insight to every day life.

Also a British War Medal awarded to “15001 CPL W M BIGGS RA”. .... WW2 medal group & miniature medals: 1939/45 Star, Burma Star, Defence Medal, War Medal. Both mounted as worn. The announcement of the award of the Military Medal appeared in the London Gazette on the 12th November 1918 the home town given as Bath. Both regimental numbers and regiments are confirmed on the Medal Index Card. Private Mackay Herriot Biggs volunteered for service with the Army Service Corps as a driver, he later transferred to 15th Bn Royal Warwickshire Regiment the 2nd Birmingham Pals and served as a runner. The British War Medal was awarded to Private Walter Meler Biggs who died on the 1st June 1915 in Hong Kong. He was awarded the BWM Only. The WW2 group is attributed to Robert Mackay Biggs who was commissioned into the Indian Army serving in the Far East. In 1947 he transferred to the 7th Hussars and served with the BAOR. One of his duties was to looking after Field Marshal Von Rundstedt prior to his war crimes trial. After his trial he became a good friend.

He had formally served with the BEF 1940 with the Royal Sussex Regiment and later Commando units, before joining the SAS in August 1942.Comprising: 1939/45 Star, Africa Star, France & Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal, Territorial Efficiency Medal (GVIR) “6399236 PTE F CASEY R. SUSSEX”. The medals are loose the campaign medals contained in original forwarding box addressed to Mr F Casey 30 Grenville Place Brighton Sussex” The box with date sent “18.11.49” and details to the back confirm sent by Infantry & AAC Records ... framed and glazed 21st Army Certificate “4979461 TPR CASEY F 1 SPECIAL AIR SERVICE REGIMENT” dated “2nd March 1945” ... Accompanied by an original portrait photograph of Fred wearing battledress uniform with SAS wings and medal ribbons. Photocopies, of service papers etc. Part of the Fred Casey SAS ArchivePrivate Fred Casey was a pre war territorial joining the 4th Bn Royal Sussex Regiment in October 1936, in the pre war years he attended the annual camps and at the outbreak of war 1939 was mobilised. He saw action in France with the BEF and was evacuated from France on the 30th May 1940. On home duties he volunteered for Commando training and on the 10th July 1940 was posted to F Troop 3 Commando, with a further posting in November to 4 Special Service Brigade. After training in February 1941 he found himself with 8 Commando and embarked with this unit to Egypt in April and served with the Middle East Commando. In August 1942 he was posted to the 1st Special Air Service. In March 1943 he was posted to the Special Raiding Squadron 1st SAS. The following month he was admitted to hospital and was discharged from the Raiding Support Squadron, possible for light duties. In December 1943 he was posted back to the UK and reported to 1st SAS on the 7th January 1944. As he prepared for the invasion of Europe he married and on the 18th August 1944 embarked to France. He was awarded the C-in-C certificate for gallantry January 1945. He served in Europe until May 1945 and was then posted with his unit to Norway. On the 20th March 1946 he was discharged to the Reserve.

Molti di questi esemplari derivano dai dettami stilistici elaborati nel più maturo gusto neoclassico dall'architetto Filippo Castelli; alcuni di essi sono similmente lavorati e avvicinabili alle sedute qui presentate (R. Antonetto, Il mobile piemontese nel Settecento. Anonima eccellenza, vol. II, Torino 2010, pag. 159).Ma per un analisi più approfondita sul tema, si veda tra gli altri in, E. Colle, Il mobile neoclassico in Italia (Milano 2005, pagg. 458 e 459) e in E. Quaglino, Il mobile piemontese (Milano 1997, pag. 182), dove l'autore pubblica un tavolo con sostegni a piramide rovesciata e stretto collarino circolare, foggia riscontrabile anche nelle gambe delle nostre sedie.Inoltre, a riguardo e tra gli esempi più virtuosi, andrà ricordato il letto a baldacchino per la camera dell'ambasciatore di Spagna, che su fondo dipinto, presenta un ricco ornato tratto dalle antichità classiche con inserti alla maniera di Wedgwood (R. Antonetto, op. citata, pagg. 84 e 85) e ancora, come non menzionare l'inconsueta decorazione di un secretàire oggi in collezione privata, caratterizzato da accese cromie ed elementi a rilievo in pastiglia dorata (R. Antonetto, op. citata, pagg. 168 e 169 e V. Viale, Mostra del barocco piemontese, catalogo della mostra a cura di, Torino 1963, tav. 238).

With an arrow in her hair and wearing a red velvet dress with pearl brooch. Signed Ross, 8cm x 6cm. Good condition. No inscriptions to the back. Sitter unknown.
