In the 17th century the library came to Maria Benigna (1635-1701), wife of Prince Ottavio Piccolomini (1599-1656); known likewise to have been a great bibliophile she much expanded the library and bequeathed a substantial part to the Piarist College of Schlackenwerth in Bohemia (now Ostrov, CZ) where it remained until 1877 [ink inscription].
