Winfield, a cast and patinated brass letter scale, c.1850, embossed around the pillar base 'R W Winfield, Birmingham', upon an ornate foliate decorated circular base, capacity 4oz, 16cm R W Winfield, Cambridge Street Works, Birmingham, (working 1825-died 1869). Founder of brass bedsteads, chairs, gas fittings, etc and coal merchant. Exhibitor of very ornate beds at Great Exhibition of 1851. Numerous patents. Had design registrations for scales in 1840, 1848 and 1852. Made for the French market. Partner in the Union Rolling Mill, Birmingham. The firm became R W Winfield & Son in 1860, but son John died in 1861. It became R W Winfield & Co. in 1866. Robert Walter died 1869. The firm deteriorated after this, hastened by a big fire that destroyed stock, tools & patterns.

Thomas Weeks, a rare ball and rod ornamental postal scale, c.1840, the gilded letter rack stamped 'Weeks's R', Mech', Museum, Tichborne St', the gilded beam cast as a mythical bird upon a patinated brass column opposing an ornamental hollow gilt ball and rod, upon a gilt metal applied marble base Thomas Weeks employed James Wyatt to design his Tichborne St Emporium, which he named The Royal Mechanical Museum' The museum opened in 1797, the Emporium attractions included a mechanical spider, automated models of birds and chamber horses, gouty chairs, metamorphic library chairs etc. He bought many items in J. J. Merlin's auction. Although Weeks died in 1834, the museum continued to retail items bearing his name posthumously.

Willis, patentee', with free standing arc indicating prices 1 - 10 pence, verso 12 - 20 pence, upon a walnut base, 26cm wide, 14.3cm high Professor R. Willis was the professor of Maths at Cambridge University. Patent No.8384, was taken out in 1840.

Winfield, Birmm , Warranted', the beam also struck on each poise end 'VII', with shaped pans above bell shaped weights (Schickert's principle), supported upon an open shaped 'A' frame and circular foot, 12cm Schickert's principle specified a mass under each pan to keep it horizontal.

R. Vandome Titford & Co., steel apothecary scales, c.1850, the beam with box end terminals supporting glass circular pans, within an oak box, the lid interior with applied label for 'R. Vandome Titford & Co., 117 Leadenhall Street, Scale Makers... English and Foreign weights for exportation', an assortment of weights comprising five circular weights 5oz troy - 1oz troy, square weights 2 dram - ½ dram, 2 scruples - ½ scruple, 05oz - 01oz troy and 10 grain weights, and a small etched glass measuring jug, beam 18cm Richard Vandome, Titford & Co. scales, weights and measure makers (working 1841-1863), also known as Titford & Co 1852-1859. Richard was trained by James Moffett and freed 1781. He had eight apprentices, four of whom became masters, including Richard Vandome Titford, freed in 1834. Richard died 1840. His Will survives. It is suspected that the name was retained by Richard Vandome Titford, although no Vandome was in the company. High quality makers.
