W. Shirley. Early Printed maps of the British Isles, no. 26. Munster published his 'Cosmographia' in 1544. This small wood cut map was published earlier and is the first printed map to show an outline of the British isles derived from the Gough map. It is also the first map to clearly delineate Wales and Anglesey. The Bay of Cardigan is not shown, this does not appear on maps until the later half of the 16th century. It is also the first map to show with roughly correct proportions East Anglia and the relationship between middle and southern England. Several places are named on the map including London, Canterbury, York, Oxford and Waterford in Ireland. Six main rivers are also shown: Tueda (Tweed), Humbro (Humber) Trenta, Veius (Wye) Sabrina (Severn) and Thamesis (Thames). This map was re issued once, in 1543.
