•GEORGE WHITELAW (1887-1957) HOT DOGS AT A BOTTLE PARTY AT NEVINSONS Signed, inscribed with title, with lengthy pencil inscription beneath, pen and ink and watercolour 51.5 x 66.5cm. * The full inscription reads: "The above represents the ante-room to the `studio` of C.R.W. Nevinson, the well-known artist, during one of his famous bottle parties. Dancing is going on in the studio, but on your left Sir Herbert Morgan, R. J. Minney and Ronny Squire are listening to the singing of Carlo Norway, the artist. in the centre Mrs Nevinson is offering `hot dogs` to Wilenski, the critic and artist; while Miles Malleson, the playwright, who is [..] maigre, helps himself in front of her; Mark Hambourg is enjoying his, but Morris Harvey prefers a cigar. Behind Mrs Nevinson is Nevinson himself telling H. G. Wells a story, and behind looms the eupeptic figure of Aubrey Hammond the artist. In the foreground on the right Selwyn Jepson endeavours to elicit from Michael Arlen the secret of writing a best seller, and Miss Farmer listens with bated breath. Behind them Herman Finck and David Whitelaw (no relation - got it in first this time!) are amusing three of Nevinson's models: and on the extreme right, helping himself to another, is an artist of sorts whom modesty forbids me to mention." ++ Generally good condition
