Lot 436

The pinnacle Impreza that ticks all the right boxes, this 36,000 mile JDM 22B is on offer from 18-years, long-term ownership with just one former keeper.Built to celebrate both the marque's 40th anniversary and its third straight WRC manufacturers' title, the 22B STi was billed as the production version of Subaru's already-iconic two-door World Rally Car. With its beefy front and rear arches increasing width by 80mm, a high-rise rear spoiler and the unique EJ22 engine, the 22B was as close to Colin McRae's rally car as any mortal was ever going to get. It wasn't so much a homologation special but more of a road-going replica.Often mistaken, the '22B' in the model's name is derived from the 555 WRC car sponsorship. Five hundred and fifty-five is 22B in hexadecimal, the number base used in computer programming. At the time, the IT world was booming and the Impreza was the icon car for the successful IT contractor in both the UK and Japan alike. ‘22B’ is often incorrectly referred to the engine capacity, which was increased from 1,994cc to 2,212cc. The 'B', meanwhile, supposedly stood for Bilstein, the damper supplier. Whichever way you look at it, Subaru created a truly fabulous machine.Only 399 22Bs were built for sale to the domestic market (another 25 were made for overseas markets) and they pre-sold almost instantly in early 1998, costing a shade under £40,000 in period. The engine wasn't simply a standard 2.0-litre bored out to 2.2-litre, the EJ22 was a separate casting. While they are exceptionally strong engines, people liked to push the boundaries a bit and often found out the hard way where the engines limit was, post-remapping. Subsequently getting hold of replacement engines was a nightmare as there were no more and many owners who blew them up resorted to putting in the later EJ25 2.5-litre engine that was originally developed to get more power for the heavily emission-controlled US cars. Even Nicky Grist couldn’t get a replacement when the engine in his second one (he had an 000 and an import) let go.The 22B is equipped with a specially-developed, 2.2-litre EJ22-engine with forged pistons, a seam-welded bodyshell (supposedly identical in shape to the WRC), special gearing, a twin-plate racing clutch, strengthened drive/prop shafts, driver-adjustable front/rear diff and bigger brakes. The suspension uses unique forged-aluminium lower links, rose-joined transverse links, inverted Bilstein dampers and Eibach springs, plus a fetching set of Gold 17-inch BBS alloy wheels.Theoretically Subaru were upholding their end of the Gentleman’s agreement between all Japanese car manufacturers including the likes of Toyota, Nissan, Subaru and Mitsubishi. The agreement was to limit all JDM production cars to 280bhp and 180km/h in order to reduce road fatalities. However, as so many have found since, cars such as the 22B, R34 GT-R, Evo VI and Supra all seem to produce comfortably more than the agreed 280bhp, so while the 22B is officially producing 276bhp, real world figures suggest the BHP readout comfortably starts with a 3!The car presented here a 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B-STI, car #318 of the 400 examples, is a matching-numbers example, imported into the UK by Litchfield Imports in 2004. After just 6 months of ownership, the first UK owner sold it to our vendor who has cherished and enjoyed the car for the next 18 years and this enthusiastic ownership is clearly evident from the car's superb condition. Our vendor bought the car back in 2004 and has routinely had the car serviced and maintained as and when required by Motor House Servicing, with a letter accompanying the history file verifying this work. The car was treated to a recent full service on 11/05/22. Within the history file there is the Bill of Sale from Subaru Crossroads Garage when our vendor purchased the car in 2004, at 13,000 miles meaning this 22B has averaged a mere 1,300miles per year for the last 18 years as it now shows 36,500(atoc).On file there is an invoice for the TSL 76mm full exhaust system costing £851.88 when fitted in 2004 with the original exhaust coming with the car. Unfortunately, due to a system error there is currently no paperwork from Motor House Servicing showing the invoices for maintenance/servicing, however the owner of said garage is happy to speak to any interested parties to verify its past. Accompanied by its original Subaru booklets from Japan and photos showing the car pre-import, this is a splendid example of an appreciating icon. With the ever-skyrocketing prices of the cream-of-the-crop JDM cars, this fabulously original 22B is a very reasonable way to ensure you have one of the greats.SpecificationMake: SUBARUModel: IMPREZA 22B-STIYear: 1998Chassis Number: GC8071359Registration Number: S55 WOWTransmission: ManualEngine Number: TBCDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 36500 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Blue and Black ClothClick here for more details and images

Lot 441

On offer from 14-years passionate ownership with just one former keeper in the UK since its import in 2008, this sensibly-guided example might be the final opportunity to own a GT-R at a sensible budget.Whilst many of the Play Station generation will have first experienced the drama of the R34 GT-R V-Spec through Gran Turismo, it was an appearance in "The Fast and the Furious"  franchise that led to an explosion in global popularity for the R34 GT-R. Indeed, the late Paul Walker drove an R34 GT-R in '2 Fast 2 Furious', enhancing its almost cult status. But it was in the 'real' world where the R34 GT-R V-Spec would cement its reputation. Described by Evo Magazine as "A warrior-class performer" in its 2007 road test, where a standard R34 GT-R was pitted against the likes of a McLaren F1, Pagani Zonda, Ferrari F40 and Bugatti Veyron, the GT-R's reputation as a class-act remained intact. It may not be able to claim the original “Godzilla” title as that remains with the R32 GT-R, but the newcomer definitely carried the torch, and arguably the R34 GT-R has become the most recognised car ever to emerge from Japan in their late-90s golden era. Synonymous with the late Paul Walker who had a true passion for the R34, managing to own 2 of the 14 examples to have been Federalized in the early 2000s. As soon as the Fast and Furious franchise used the GT-R as the hero car in their series, the popularity of the R34 surged worldwide and continues to remain on that upward trajectory to this day.The R33 GT-R was a good car, but many found it to be too bulky in design and too heavy to be a worthy successor to the R32 GT-R, which the R34 sought to rectify and did so with flying colours. Released with a shorter, sharper design and the performance to match, it’s safe to say the bite truly matches the bark. For a car released in 1999, the R34 came crammed full of technology including a 5.8" LCD multifunction display in the dashboard, showing seven different live readings of engine and vehicle statistics such as boost pressure, oil/water temperature and throttle percentage among others. It arrived with aggressive new styling, a stiffer bodyshell and a reworked version of the bulletproof and highly modifiable RB26DETT twin-turbo, inline-six mated to an all-new Getrag six-speed gearbox and transfer case. The electronically controlled Super HICAS rear-wheel steering system was retained. Unlike some other performance cars of the 90s, Nissan did not neglect the braking system and fitted Brembo brakes with 300mm vented discs. This Sonic Silver, R34 GT-R Series I presents in excellent condition and has been maintained religiously throughout its 14-year, UK single ownership. As a Series 1 example, JDM-delivered car, it's one of just 2,709 Series 1s out of a production run of 11,578 cars. Within the history file there is every MOT since its 2008 import. The car has been serviced every year by GT-R Specialists, RB Motorsport, with all invoices on file including an engine refresh in 2018. Costing a whisker under £3,000, the head was skimmed, head gasket replaced as well as timing belts and idlers, giving full confidence to the new owner that the bulletproof RB26 is as ready for action as it's ever been. With the way R34 GT-R prices have skyrocketed so easily into six-figures in recent years, this cherished, one UK-owner example is surely the last chance to acquire such a desirable car for a reasonable outlay, especially considering the 25-year import rule legalising these cars in the US means that values may well move on even further.SpecificationMake: NISSANModel: SKYLINE R34 GT-RYear: 2001Chassis Number: BNR34000578Registration Number: D7 WLMTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 90700 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Grey ClothClick here for more details and images

Lot 461

Offered from a prominent UK Bentley collection, this low mileage Continental R has benefitted from over £15,000 maintenance spend in the last 12 months - just 45,000 on the odometer and presented in stunning colours.Introduced in 1991, the Continental R was the first Bentley in 26 years to not share a body style with a concurrent Rolls-Royce and was inspired by the highly collectable Continental R-Type of the 1950s. The elegant two-door coachwork was styled by John Heffernan and Ken Greenley, a duo whose résumé included sports cars like the Aston Martin Virage. Five years later, Bentley introduced a short-wheelbase version dubbed the Continental T that was equipped with an uprated engine developing 420bhp and an impressive 650 foot-pounds of torque available at only 2,200rpm. Bentley customers soon expressed an interest in equipping the wide-body Continental R model with the T’s more powerful engine, and the Continental R Mulliner was consequently introduced at the 1999 Geneva Salon. Production ran from 1999 until 2003 with just 131 examples being built and they are often regarded as one of the last real Bentleys produced before the company's acquisition by Volkswagen. The example presented here is a 2001 Bentley Continental R Wide-bodied Mulliner Coupé (SCBZB25EX1CH63540) that has covered just 44,775 miles over the last 21 years. According to the Bentley Vehicle Specification sheets, the car is finished in Black Sapphire which basically is a very dark blue. The interior looks simply fabulous in a combination of French Navy and Barley hides with Dark Blue carpets, Dark Blue Lambswool Rugs and Burr Walnut veneers. The spec/option sheet runs to two A4 pages and makes fascinating reading. The car was purchased from Silverstone Auctions around 18 months ago with an indicated 43,765 miles and despite the fact that our fastidious vendor has only covered just over 1,000 miles in that time, he has spared no expense on service and maintenance in that period - some £15,000. Entrusted to H R Owen, Cheltenham they completed a major service on the car in 2021 replacing anything that wasn't upto standard. The Bentley also received 4 new tyres, an ECU re program, and has again had its annual service in May this year.In exceptional condition throughout having been maintained and stored regardless of cost, and in a delightful colour combination, this elegant Bentley is accompanied by a total and comprehensive service history including detailed invoices and numerous MOT Certificates. This is an opportunity to acquire one of the very best Bentley Wide-body examples on the road today.   SpecificationMake: BENTLEYModel: CONTINENTAL R MULLINER AYear: 2001Chassis Number: SCBZB25EX1CH63540Registration Number: Y932 BBATransmission: AutomaticEngine Number: 102094L410M/T2W Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 44775 MilesInterior Colour: BlueClick here for more details and images

Beautifully specified in Peacock with Sapphire, a modern classic Bentley Coupé manufactured in limited numbers with enormous presence.Introduced in 1991, the Continental R was the first Bentley in 26 years to not share a body style with a concurrent Rolls-Royce and was inspired by the highly collectable Continental R-Type of the 1950s. The elegant two-door coachwork was styled by John Heffernan and Ken Greenley, a duo whose résumé included sports cars like the Aston Martin Virage. Five years later Bentley introduced a short-wheelbase version dubbed the Continental T that was equipped with an uprated engine developing 420bhp and an impressive 650 foot-pounds of torque available at only 2,200 rpm. Bentley customers soon expressed interest in equipping the wide-body Continental R model with the T’s more powerful engine, and the Continental R Mulliner was consequently introduced at the 1999 Geneva Salon. The nomenclature was an homage to H.J. Mulliner, the British coachbuilder responsible for the original R-Type’s breathtaking fastback bodywork. The R Mulliner’s wide-body configuration offered spacious interior elegance, whilst the twin-turbocharged V8 could rocket the car to a top speed of nearly 170mph, with brisk 5.6-second sprints to 60 mph from standstill. Individually tailored to customer order, the R Mulliner was Bentley’s ultimate 20th century combination of luxury and performance, produced in a modest total quantity of 148 cars with 63 in right-hand drive. Offered here is a well specified Bentley Continental R finished in Peacock Blue with mostly Sapphire Black interior. Purchased new by the F & W Manufacturing Company, London W1 for £240,000, this Wide body Coupé shows circa 65,000 miles on the odometer and comes with a complete, well-documented service history.Accompanying the Bentley is a service file with invoices indicating that over £15,000 has been spent on maintenance in recent years, including a service at P&A Wood as part of its pre-sale preparations, the last owner having bought the Bentley from this notable dealer directly. As well as servicing, this work included new front brake pads and discs, new rear pads, new alternator belt, various electrical rectifications, Waxoyling of the underbody, and some other maintenance. The original service book shows over 20 Bentley main dealer or specialist stamps and the original book-pack is complete with drivers handbooks. The car was purchased by our vendor in 2018, who has used it sparingly and invested his passion into bringing this car up to its fantastic current condition. On the button and driving well, this magnificent modern-classic Bentley is described as in excellent condition and will be offered with a fresh MOT and its original registration plate applied for.NB; The Cherished Registration Number illustrated does not form part of the sale. SpecificationMake: BENTLEYModel: CONTINENTAL RYear: 2000Chassis Number: SCBZB26E6YCH63317Registration Number: TBATransmission: AutomaticDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 65000 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

Lot 525

A rare homage to a rare car. A superb re-creation of the 1968 911R, probably the genesis of all the lightweight 911s that followed. This lovely 911 did indeed start out as a 1975 2.7-litre 911S but was a rare, UK-supplied, right-hand drive car finished in Porsche Light Yellow. Its owner in 2013 had always been interested in recreating one of the very rare lightweight 911Rs that were the stuff of legend, and chose this H-Series Carrera as the perfect base for his re-creation. Some six years before the arrival of, undoubtedly the best known sporting 911 ever, the '73 2.7RS,  Porsche’s engineers took four standard 911S models off the production line with the intention of creating an ultra-light 911 to be known as the R (Racing). Weight reduction was the focus and the front cover, wings, doors and bumpers were made of glass-fibre-reinforced polymer, manufactured by the Stuttgart company Karl Baur. The weight reduction affected almost every part of the car. The 911R's windscreen was made of 4mm thin glass, the other glass was replaced with 2mm thick Plexiglas and what was not absolutely necessary has been left out. Purism in its purest form. In the slimmed-down cabin, two of the five instruments were removed as was the winding mechanism for the side windows and simple leather straps replaced the door pulls. Compared to a standard 1967 911 S - which at 1030kg was hardly a heavyweight - the weight reduction was 230 kg in total. Owners of modern GT2 and GT3 911s will recognise these weight saving techniques but this was 1967!  After the four original prototypes, a further 20 production 911Rs were built and when one of these original cars comes to market, the numbers are usually North of £400,000.The transformation of this 911S into a 911R homage began in 2013 and was totally painstaking involving huge amounts of detail. Within the history file there is full photographic evidence of the build which started with all rust being eradicated, new sills, diaphragms, B-posts and kidney bowls. The later-type front slam panel was removed in favour of the Porsche early long-bonnet panel together with inner wing extensions. At the same time, the sunroof was removed to aid strength and the whole shell re-painted in Ivory White with a full livery emulating that of the 1969 Tour De France winner, Guy Larrousse . The engine cover was custom-built in GRP along with a three-piece rear bumper and valance and a one-piece front bumper. 911R-spec front wings in GRP were fitted along with steel bowls. High-impact polycarbonate windows were installed except the screen with sliders and vents as per R-spec. A pair of period-correct Recaros were installed trimmed in Alcantara and leather along with a matching dash top. A full roll-cage was fitted and TRS rebranded harnesses to complete the safety aspect. The engine was rebuilt at the same time and the original block (6350106) bored from 2.7 to 2.8-litres and fitted with new pistons by its skilled mechanical owner. Within the car's history file are full details of the engine build and the rest of the work carried out but the list is far too long to include here, however, in September 2021 the car was rolling-road tested and displayed a maximum output of 233bhp, nearly 60 more than the standard car, which seems impressive.Within the history file there are literally thousands of pounds worth of receipts showing the detailed attention lavished on this special Porsche and the file also contains a magazine feature on the car by Classic Porsche in January 2015, an MSA Competition Log Book to cover Hill climbs and Sprints, dated January 2015 and some associated communication with Motor Sports UK, previously Motor Sports Association. SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 911SYear: 1975Chassis Number: 911530071Registration Number: WVV 64HTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 6350106Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 83635 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

Lot 528

A fully restored, matching numbers example, with many original features. More widely admired than any other Jaguar saloon, the Mk2 now seems synonymous with the 1960s. Leaner looking than its Mk1 forbear, the reduced girth of its roof posts not only gave occupants a far airier glasshouse but also presented onlookers with a rather more elegant shape. Built as a monocoque, it featured independent coil-sprung front suspension, a well-located 'live' rear axle and all-round disc brakes. Available in 2.4-litre, 3.4-litre, and 3.8-litre guises, the larger-engined variants soon became known as capable sports saloons, a reputation underscored by their racing siblings' numerous track victories against assorted opposition. Although slower on paper, the 3.4-litre cars nonetheless boasted some 210bhp and 216lbft of torque, an output more than sufficient to ensure a 120mph top speed and spirited acceleration especially when fitted with the desirable four-speed plus overdrive manual gearbox. The car presented here is a 1961 Jaguar Mk2 3.4 M/OD matching-numbers example, with a fascinating history. The story goes that in 1979 its engine suffered a seizure (later discovered that a cam-chain tensioner part had pierced the sump) and sadly the car was not attended to, and put away in a very well protected garage where it sat for 37 years! Not a great start, but what it did ensure was that, when rediscovered, its originality was safeguarded and, thanks to how it had been stored, it had fared extremely well in terms of bodywork/chassis deterioration. Almost like a time capsule.Seeing the car’s potential, our vendor set about overseeing a most exacting restoration mostly carried out by ‘AMW Restorations’ of Mexborough, spending approximately £35,000 (with 1,500 hours of labour invoiced) to make this car the perfect mix of originality (with details like flat headlamps that often get replaced) and mechanical health. There is a thorough breakdown of all expenses (copy available upon request), with a box of invoices. There are also receipts and invoices from previous keepers, including some history from the pre-1979 owner. Some highlights of the work include a refaced and rebuilt cylinder head, block, crank, and flywheel, a balanced crank, and a set of shiny new pistons (the machining was carried out by R&E Arnett of Doncaster); all new brake calipers, and an overhaul of the master cylinder, braking system, and clutch (by Ward Engineering of Colchester); a new fuel tank, new leaf springs, all new shock absorbers, steering ball joints, bushes, brake pads, and tyres.Slightly over-bored, the Jag's capacity is now 3.6-litres – so watch out you 3.8-litre drivers! Now fitted with 123 ignition, a stainless-steel exhaust and painted wheels, this MK2 is not only a rare survivor but now drives like it was designed to. It has been enjoyed and maintained by our vendor for a few years since its transformation, now properly bedded-in and in tip-top health. A well set-up Mk 2 is a revelation and should be enjoyed by every enthusiast at some point. This may be your opportunity. SpecificationMake: JAGUARModel: MK2 3.4 - MANUAL OVERDRIVEYear: 1961Chassis Number: 155074DNRegistration Number: LCM 775Transmission: Manual Engine Number: KG83028Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 70537 MilesMake: RHDClick here for more details and images

Two former keepers, just 21,000 miles and one of only 19 UK-delivered cars. Built to celebrate 60 years of Bentley production at the historic Crewe Factory and one of just 60 produced of which only 19 were in right-hand drive. Special features of the Arnage Diamond Series include diamond-quartered wood marquetry and diamond-quilted leather seat upholstery. Externally, the Diamond Series is distinguished by a stainless steel matrix to the front bumper, new larger diameter 19 inch x 8J twin-spoke alloy wheels, to a unique design, and Union Flag badges to the front wings. A new range of Heritage paint colours was also available. The Arnage Diamond Series also sees the reintroduction of the ‘Flying B’ mascot, a feature that last adorned the radiator of a series production Bentley in the late 1970s. "This collector’s model has one of the most beautifully crafted cabins fitted to any Bentley, says Chairman and Chief Executive, Dr Franz-Josef Paefgen. "It clearly demonstrates the exceptional craftsmanship skills of the Crewe workforce, the culmination of 60 years of experience over several generations. The diamond-quartered marquetry of the Arnage Diamond Series is truly unique in the motor industry".Based on the Arnage R, the Diamond was available with either the 400bhp or, at extra cost, the 450bhp version of the Crewe-designed and produced 6.75 litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine.
