A FOLIO OF VARIOUS COSTUME AND UNIFORM PRINTS to comprise examples in various media by or after H. Bunbury, J. Green, W. Heath, H. Martens, R. R. Reinagle, C. Vernet, E. Walker [see illus] and many others, including c.42 small Ackermann subjects, many coloured, principally 19th Century (folio, approx. 90) * Lots 1521 to 1529 are from the collection of the distinguished military historian, the late William Young Carman, FSA, FRHS (1909-2003). Carman nurtured a keen interest in the subject from the 1930's and, after service with The Essex Yeomanry during the War, he joined the staff of the Imperial War Museum in 1950, subsequently becoming Deputy Director of the National Army Museum at The Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst (later at Chelsea) until he retired. Carman made and sold his own flat and solid model soldiers and was considered a leading expert in military uniforms of the 18th- and 19th Centuries. He contributed many articles on the subject to the Journal of the Society for Army Historical Research. HENRY R. HALL (1859-1927); oil on canvas, mountainous loch landscape with Highland cattle in foreground, signed and dated '90, 60 x 90cm, framed. CONDITION REPORT: There are five small old patch repairs to the canvas, there is a tear upper right of approx 2 x 1cm, and a scrape thinning of paint just beneath, there is a double impressed mark to the left pushing through the canvas and splitting the paint, there is a small hole lower left, and overall in need of cleaning. The frame is a modern gilt frame.

CONDITION REPORT: There are areas of several scratches to the inside with one major, also some wear to the base and some minor areas of scratches. Rim is in good condition and generally the bowl is intact.
