Ritterliches Schwert zu anderthalb Hand, Frankreich, um 1440/50 Zweischneidige, konisch zulaufende Stichklinge mit rhombischem Querschnitt. Einseitig in Messing eingelegter Wappenschild, darunter stilisierter Passauer Wolf. Auf der Gegenseite die Buchstaben "I" und "R" mit einer Schlangenlinie verbunden. Gerade, weit ausladende Parierstange mit verdickten Enden. Kräftige, leicht konische Angel, Fischschwanzknauf mit drei geschnürten Rippen. Länge 116 cm.Früher französischer Schwerttypus, der durch mehrere ähnliche Exemplare der bekannten Castillon-Fundgruppe belegt ist. Escutcheon inlaid in brass on one side, underneath it stylised Passau wolf mark. On the opposite side letters "I" and "R" connected by a serpentine line. Straight, extended quillons with widened finials. Sturdy, slightly conical tang, fishtail pommel with three roped ridges. Length 116 cm. Early French sword type evidenced by several similar objects that are part of the well-known group of swords from the Battle of Castillon. Condition: II - III

Interestingly the adding of the initial of the moneyer's surname is very uncommon in as early as the reign of Stephen. Tierri D of London mint striking Pennies of type 2 is other exception, and Robert A. here for Thetford.

Elizabeth I (1558-1603), gold Crown of Five Shillings, second issue, struck in 22 carat "crown" gold, crowned bust in ruff left, within inner beaded circle, Latin legend surrounding, initial mark cross-crosslet (1560-61) both sides, ELIZABETH:. D; G; ANG; FR; ET. HI; REGINA, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, E to left, R to right, crown breaks inner beaded circle, Latin legend surrounding, SCVTVM: FIDEI: PROTEGET: EAM, 2.87g (cf. Schneider 748; North 1983; S.2522). Richly toned, a little ragged with hairline scratches, deeper scratch on reverse, with an attractive portrait style, a bold very fine.The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Elizabeth by the grace of God, Queen of England, France and Ireland" and on the reverse as "The shield of faith shall protect her."

Scotland, Mary Queen of Scots (1542-67), gold 22 Shillings, first period, 1553, crowned Scottish arms, I G either side for Jacobus Gubernator, legend surrounding between wire thin linear circles, outer toothed border to rim, MARIA. D. G. R. SCOTORVM, rev. crowned Mary Regina monogram, cinquefoil either side, date in legend, DILIGITE IVSTICIAM 1553, 2.55g (Burns 3, fig.816; SCBI 35:987; SCBI 58;253-4; S.5396). Toned, some light wear to high points with some surface marks, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as AU58, rare.NGC Certification 8221106-001The letters I and G either side of the Scottish arms stand for "James, Earl of Arran, Regent and Governor of Scotland" which appear in the first period for Mary's reign before marriage. The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Mary, by the Grace of God, Queen of Scotland" and on the reverse "Observe Justice". A great deal of the gold in the coinage of Scotland at this period was mined locally principally from Crawford Moor, when nuggets from 2 grams to 30 ounces were discovered in the reign of James I (1406-37). These gold coins were minted in 22 carat gold. Mary abdicated from the Scottish throne in 1567 in favour of her young son James VI, who later united the Kingdom of Scotland with England as Great Britain, and as King James I of England.

Toned, short scratches and digs both sides, some deeper than others, otherwise very fine and extremely rare die combination with the missing colon at end of legend.NGC Certification 8221108-006 – has been graded AU details – obverse scratched, matching in with description above.The abbreviated Latin legend on the obverse translates as "Victoria by the Grace of God, Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."There does not seem to be any trace of the colon after D and the positioning and extra piece of metal protruding from the upper right of the D match the illustrated example in Gouby’s specialised edition of the “British Bronze Penny” where he also mentions in section 4 that only four examples were known as of the time of writing.Provenance:Purchased privately from collector Tony Crocker, December 2005.

G;. AGL'. FRA': Z; HIB; REX; rev. crowned Tudor rose, crowned h to left, crowned R to right, POSVU; DEVm; ADIVTORIVm; mEVm; 7.15g (N.1841; S.2365). Dark tone, flan striking crack and some contact marks. Fine, rare.The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Henry the Eighth by the Grace of God, King of England and France and Lord of Ireland" and on the reverse "I have made God my helper".Struck in the period of debasement of the coinage, when the King took more profit from the coinage to help pay for the upkeep of his armies on the continent and his extravagant taste, earning him the nickname "Old Copper-nose" in direct relation to these Testoon coins as the first place any base metal would show through on these coins was upon the high point of the nose.
A fine R & W Hawthorn, Leslie & Co Ltd, Newcastle-on-Tyne, ship builder's model of the twin screw steamers 'DESTERRO' and 'PORTO ALEGRE', one of two identical vessels built for The National Steam Navigation Company Rio de Janeiro, with ivorine plaque dated 1889, finely detailed with rigged derricks, cabin doors, metal and wooden rails with fittings as appropriate, standing on a four pillar support on a stepped mahogany plinth length 189 cm x 34.5 cm deep, approximate height 75 cm, currently contained in a high-quality contemporary bespoke light oak glazed display case, height 184 cm x depth 51 cm x length 221 cm. *Porto Alegre wrecked near Cabo Santa Marta on 31st July 1905. Desterro was broken up in 1935 after decades of service in Brazil after working under three names: 'Florianopolis', 'Commandante Vasconcellos' and 'Joaquim Tavora'. CONDITION REPORT: The boat is free-standing in this cabinet, should the purchaser not want the large display case we can either re-sell this or dispose of it.

The paint layers are in a stable condition overall. There are areas of overpaint across the surface, in areas applied in quite a brushy, loose manner but mainly covering age cracks. The varnish is slightly yellow, glossy and even.
