Latin AmericaBrazil1846, 10 r. black, greyish paper, intermediate impression, a fresh block of twelve (3x4), sheet margin at left, with re-entries in places and displaying two vertically conjoined transfers at lower right caused by a shifted alignment -a variety scarcely encountered-, slightly cut into at right, otherwise mostly very good margins, tied to 10 June 1849 cover to Rio de Janeiro by red Rio Grande cds on dispatch. Slit through on opening as usual, and subsequently rejoined, not detracting. An unusual franking paying the single maritime rate, being the largest franking and multiple known of this value on cover, of which, to our knowledge, only seven covers are recorded, this possessing the added attraction of being marginal. Cert. Moorhouse. RHM 4. Ex Pracchia and Hubbard. Photo
