Papp.-Bildertrommel mit ausgestanzten Sehschlitzen (Durchm. ca. 27,5 cm., Höhe 12,2 cm.), mittels unten mittig eingelassenem Metallstift drehbar aufgesteckt auf gedrechseltem Holzfuß. Innen 6 beidseitig bedruckte Bilderstreifen in Farblithographie, jeweils ca. 5,2 x 85 cm., sowie mit dem Orig.-Deckel für die Bildertrommel mit aufkasch. Illustr. (mit leerem Schriftband) u. dem Firmensignet. (Berlin, Luxuspapierfabrik A. Sala, um 1900). Gesamthöhe mit Fuß ca. 36 cm. Füsslin, Optisches Spielzeug S. 62 (mit Farbabb.). Seltenes u. hübsch gestaltetes Zoetrop. - Die große, runde Papptrommel ist in der oberen Hälfte umlaufend mit 20 senkrechten Sehschlitzen versehen. An die Innenwand der geöffneten Trommel wird nun einer der Bildstreifen eingelegt und die Trommel auf dem Holzfuß in eine Drehbewegung versetzt, wobei dem Betrachter durch die vorbeiziehenden Schlitze ein Eindruck von Bewegung vermittelt wird. - Das Zoetrop, auch Wundertrommel oder Lebensrad genannt, wurde um 1830 von dem Engländer William George Horner (1768-1837) erfunden. - Einige Gebrauchs- u. Alterssp., Drehmechanismus u. Holzfuß wohl erneuert. Trommel tls. berieben u. mit einigen Schabspuren an den Schlitzen, Deckelillustr. mit Fehlst. u. ohne die Schrift. Die auf die Außenseite der Trommel kaschierte Bildleiste gedunkelt, die Bilderstreifen innen tls. etw. knittrig, 4 Streifen mit transparenten Klebstreifen repariert. R

Boyd; thence by descent * Hugh Walpole was an eager collector of Grant's work and this subject is typical of the artist's work in the late 1920s and early1930s, executed in this swift and spontaneous manner. The lidded vase is a familiar motif in compositions from this period but this is more probably a London subject or one painted at Vanessa Bell's house in Cassis than at Charleston. We are very grateful to Richard Shone for his assistance with cataloguing this lot. *Condition: Good condition; in need of a light clean.

M. Enfield roundel (faint), replacement loading rod.

PRITCHETT, serial no 62, circa 1858, with 32in. barrel rifled with three grooves, marked 'LONDON' at the breech, military pattern barleycorn front-sight and ladder rear-sight to 1100 yards, with hook or break-off breech, borderline engraved bar-action lock of Enfield P53 style but of reduced size, signed with makers name to centre, 'R. T. Pritchett', slender iron mounted full walnut stock, the barrel secured by two flat keys not barrel bands, iron mounts, borderline engraved buttcap, the tang engraved with the rack number '62' indicating it was one of a stand, borderline engraved trigger-guard with long tang, nosecap and two rammer pipes, complete with rammer.
