George Farrington Hornibrook (British c1843-1882): Scarborough' North Bay Pier with Figures Donkeys and Bathing Machines, oil on canvas signed and dated 1877, 50cm x 75cmNotes and Provenance: in 1876 Hornibrook was commissioned to paint a large painting of 'The Burning of the Spa Saloon' Scarborough which occurred on the 8th Sept., now part of the Scarborough Art Gallery Collection. This picture painted the following year celebrates the opening of the new pier (started in 1866 and destroyed by the storm in 1905) is illustrated in 'Scarborough a Pictorial History' by R J Percy 1877. The artist is listed as living at 5 St John's Terrace Falsgrave Scarborough in 1879 Condition Report Overall reasonable condition. No crackalure or loose paint.
