An ERII RAF officer’s sword, straight shallow fullered SE blade 32”, etched with crowned eagle and R Arms within vine leaf and blank scroll panels, polished gilt half basket hilt pierced and scrolled in panels wioth crowned ERII cypher and applied crowned eagle in oval, eagle’s head pommel and plain backstrap, simulated white sharkskin grip, in its black leather scabbard, the gilt mounts with ornamental bands. New Condition Plate 8
A Geo V officer’s sword of a rifle regiment, straight fullered blade 32½”, by Wilkinson, no 50950 (for 1915), etched with crowned R Arms, GVR cypher, strung bugle and wreath within scrolled panels, regulation plated hilt incorporating crowned strung bugle, plain pommel, chequered backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in its leasther FS scabbard with frog. A late 18th century smallsword, hollow ground triangular section blade 30¾”, etched with R Crest and “Vivat Rex” in strapwork panels, trophies and flourishes, polished steel hilt with studded oval guard, the knucklebow, ovoid pommel and swollen facetted grip covered with parallel wheel cut decoration, in its steel mounted leather scabbard (AF) with 2 rings. A good pair of officer’s 16 bore percussion holster pistols, by Beckwith, London, c 1850, 14” overall, browned octagonal twist barrels 8” with single platinum line at breeches and swivel ramrods, the top flats engraved “London”, the back action locks and flat hammers nicely engraved with scrolled foliage, the plates also engraved “Beckwith”, the walnut fullstocks with chequered butts and scroll engraved blued steel trigger guards. GWO & C, the trigger guards retaining much original blued finish, the barrels with some original browning; contained in a good quality green baize lined brass bound mahogany case, with reproduction Beckwith trade label in the lid, and containing a good embossed copper 3 way flask (R 1274 with common top), a stout brass mounted wooden cleaning rod, steel pincer mould, Dixon pewter oil bottle, a good reproduction nipple key with pricker, a matching screwdriver, and a modern cap tin. Together with Four real photograph postcards of airships comprising R38 (ZR2) emerging from her shed with caption ZR2 1st trip June 23rd 1921 by Blake and Edgar, Bedford; silhouette of airship with title “British Airship at Bedford”, also by Blake and Edgar, the reverse of which bears the message “What do you think of our Air Ship, thought you would like a PC of it”, not postally stamped; a third shows R-101 at her mooring mast, reverse pencil message “Went for her trial trip Tuesday Oct 15th 1929”; the fourth, bearing a George V three-halfpence Postal Union Congress London 1929 stamp shows R-101 in flight with the caption “Oct 18 1929 R-101 Over Small Heath, Birmingham” with the reverse message “Quite a Sight & Quite a Sound!”.
