COURT MARTIAL / LOCAL INTEREST: A medal group of five consisting of Victorian Queen's Sudan Medal (1899) named to 3529 PTE. T. EDGE 1/LINC, Queen's South Africa Medal (QSA) with South Africa 1902 and Transvaal clasps named to 5309 PTE. T. EDGE NORFOLK REGT., WWI 1914-15 trio to 3-10462 C. SJT. T. EDGE NORF. R. (Victory with MiD), Khedive's Sudan Medal (1896-1908) named to 3529 PTE. T. EDGE 1ST BN. LINCOLN. REGT. Timothy Edge was born in Loddon, Norfolk on 25th February 1875 and went on to work as a horseman on a farm. Enlisted in Norwich, joining the Lincolnshire Regiment on 2nd February 1893 aged 18 years 1 month. Served at home from 02/02/1893 until 31/01/1895. Posted to Malta 1895-1897 then Egypt 1897-1898. Took part in the Nile Expedition to reclaim Dongola seeing action at The Atbara on 8th April 1898 and Khartoum 2nd September 1898. He served in Madras, India 8th November 1898 until 10th February 1902, suffering an injury falling from a tree (information with lot). Transferred to the 1st Bn. Norfolk Regiment (sanctioned as a special case) in 1899. Posted to Africa 11th February 1902 and returned to England on 11th February 1903. AWOL between 15th and 22nd May 1903 and imprisoned for 7 days. Court martial 5th August 1904 for drunkenness and resisting arrest, resulting in 21 days imprisonment. Discharged on 1st February after 12 years' service. Brought from the reserve to be re-enlisted on 1st September 1914 into the Norfolks aged 39 “for term of 1 year unless war lasts longer”. Was a private on joining, corporal 15th September 1915, Sergeant 5th December 1915 then Colour Sergeant. MID 07.04.18. Served at home and in France & Flanders until 17th February 1919 and discharged under general demobilisation on 31st March 1920, character “very good”, total service 16+ years. Died 22nd December 1956 at Whitlingham Hospital, Trowse, Norwich of Cancer of Colon and Heart degeneration aged 81. The lot includes documentation copies and hand-written summary.
