Ca.900- 1100 AD. A Beautiful Viking Scandinavian Silver coiled ring representing the norse myth of Jormungandr, the Midgard Serpent. Such rings were traditionally worn by powerful, wealthy individuals and were known as chieftain rings. The silver coil twists around the finger, popular in Viking silver art and coincidentally made to look like snake skin, and its ends modelled to represent the serpent's head and tail. Ca.200 AD. Wearable Roman gold intaglio ring, It is set with its original dark red carnelian gemstone, simply cut with a stylized image of the goddess Ceres. She holds ears of corn in her left hand and a dish in her right, in front of her appears to represent a tripod altar of incense. Ceres was the goddess of agriculture, so the original owner would have been connected with farming and trade. The intaglio used to seal and authenticate letters and transactions. The Star of Bethlehem, or Christmas Star, appears only in the nativity story of the Gospel of Matthew, where "wise men from the East" (Magi) are inspired by the star to travel to Jerusalem. There they meet King Herod of Judea, and ask, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We have come to pay homage to the newborn king of the Jews." Herod calls his scribes and priests who quote to him that a verse from the Book of Micah interpreted as a prophecy, states that the Jewish Messiah would be born in Bethlehem to the south of Jerusalem. Secretly intending to find and kill the Messiah in order to preserve his own kingship.
