Torre, Carlos. Autographenblatt mit 9 eigenhändigen Unterschriften von Schachmeistern und Schachfreunden aus der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts auf Vorder- und Rückseite. Blattgröße 16,5 x 20,5 cm. (45) * U. a. mit den eigenhändigen Unterschriften von Carlos Torre, Martin Desire Hago (1884 – 1944, ungarisch – amerikanischer Schachmeister), Delos Avery, Erling Tholfsen (1904 – 1996, spielte im US – Team bei der Olympiade in Den Haag 1928), Albert B. Herrick, Anthony Edward Santasiere, James Mortimer, George Beihoff (1879 – 1937, amerikanischer Shachmeister). Der mexikanische Schachmeister Carlos Torre (1904 – 1978) gewann 1924 in Detroit und spielte 1925 bei den Turnieren in Baden – Baden, Marienbad und Moskau, wo er spektakulär gegen Emanuel Lasker gewann. Der amerikanische Schachmeister Anthony Edward Santasiere (1904 – 1977) nahm u. a. an 4 Landesmeisterschaften der USA und in Lake Hopatcong 1923 teil. Er gewann das Turnier in Mailand 1953 und war im Team der USA beim Radiowettkampf gegen die UdSSR 1945. Der Schachmeister James Mortimer (1832- 1911) spielte nicht sehr erfolgreich auf vielen Turnier, erzielte aber gute Einzelpartien. Sein Name ist mit der Mortimer – Verteidigung in der Spanischen Partie verbunden. Tschigorin, Michail, Leopold Hoffer, Carl August Walbrodt und Amos Burn. Autographenblatt mit den 4 eigenhändigen Unterschriften und Datumsangaben von M. Tschigorin, L. Hoffer, C. A. Walbrodt und A. Burn aus dem Jahr 1895. Blattgröße 16,5 x 20,5 cm. (45) * Michail Tschigorin hat zu Beginn zwei Worte in kyrillischer Schrift hinzugefügt. Der russische Schachspieler Michail Tschigorin (1850 – 1908) war einer der führenden Schachmeister seiner Zeit. Er spielte erfolgreich bei vielen bedeutenden Turnieren. Tschigorin galt als einer der wichigsten Eröffnungstheoretiker seiner Zeit und wurde für sein erfindungsreiches Kombinationsspiel berühmt. Der aus Ungarn stammende Leopold Hoffer (1842 – 1913) lebte ab 1867 in Paris, wo er u. a. Wettkämpfe gegen Kolisch und Rosenthal gewann. Er gründete in England die Zeitschrift „The Chess Monthly“, die er zusammen mit Zukertort bis 1896 herausgab. Der deutsche Schachmeister Carl August Walbrodt (1871 – 1902) nahm erfolgreich an Kongressen des Deutschen Schachbundes, internationalen Turnieren und Wettkämpfen mit internationalen Schachmeistern teil. Daneben war er Redakteur der Berliner Schachzeitung. Der englische Schachmeister Amos Burn (1848 - 1925) gehörte am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts mit zu den besten Schachspielern seines Landes und siegte in Köln 1898.
