Ephemera – invitation card fine engraved invitation card dated 1885 by ‘Mr Duntborne’ (the noted printer/publisher for the likes of Rex Whistler), featuring a fine graphic of a sedan chair with a society lady looking out and attendants standing by. The invitation is to H R Robertson (author of books on engraving) to a private view of ‘a loan collection of mezzotints’. This is a particularly fine example of this type of ephemera. Approx 20x15cm.

India – Punjab – Maharajah Duleep Singh a fine and hitherto unknown albumen print of Duleep Singh showing him seated in deerstalker and tweeds as part of a Scottish hunting party, dated Thornham 1877. Also in the photograph are Hon A Henniker Major, Hon R L Melville, the Marquis of Ormonde, Lord Henniker, Hon A Henniker, Lord Homesdale, and J R Gladstone. The photograph, measuring approx 20x15cms, is mounted on a large album page and to its side is a neatly drawn ms table showing the results of the shoot at Thornham Hall that week – totalling more than 2,000 creatures killed. Original photographs of the last Maharajah of the Punjab are excessively rare and highly sought after.

An absolutely sublime original landscape of the Taj Mahal at Agra, with reflections in the water, two figures standing on the shore and surrounding landscape. Signed by the artist bottom right: “H. R. B. Donne” (Henry Richard Beadon Donne), a British artist 1860-1949. Glazed and framed. Painting measures 34cms x 22.5cms, frame 41cms x 30cms high. The mausoleum is located in Agra, India. It was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal is widely recognized as the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage.
