1832 Cholera in Co Galway, Irish silver salver presented by troops of 64th (2nd Staffordshire) Regiment, in thanks to clergyman.A small Irish silver circular salver the rim chased with floral and foliate motif, engraved to the centre 'Presented by the Non-Commissioned Officers and Privates - of Capt. G. Colings Compy. 64 Regt. - To the Rev. T. Medlicott - for his kind attention to - them during the prevalence - of the cholera - at Loughrea in 1832.' Dublin, 1832, maker's mark for R Smith. 6¼oz troy (195g). Diameter 6Other Notes: The European Cholera epidemic reached Ireland in 1832. Originating in India, the disease spread to Russia in 1817, Germany in 1830 and England in 1831. Estimates of the death-toll in Ireland vary from 15,000 to 30,000. The mortality rate in Ireland was among the highest in Europe caused by poverty and generally unsanitary conditions, the custom of visiting neighbours' homes in the evenings, and the holding of wakes in the presence of the remains of deceased victims. The Galway Advertiser, Vol XVI, No. 27, July 7th 1832 reports that the epidemic reached Loughrea in the previous week. 6in. (15.2cm)

Strang & Son, Arbroath & Alloa', outer and inner case both stamped '18', outer case with engraved initials 'CWI', reverse of outer case engraved with motto 'Semper Vigilans' (Always Vigilant), 4.8cm diameter, (91g gross) Condition Report / Extra Information Dial OK, light wear to seconds markers near hinge side.No glass.Crown turns and hands spin rapidly.Does not wind.Case diameter approx 48mm.Light wear and abrasions throughout case.Engraving worn to reverse.Cover to inner case has hinge broken - removes completely but still fits neatly when replaced, although loose.Underside of inner case lid has one worn/rubbed mark.Also stamped '18'.

An R Lalique opalescent glass and gilt metal mounted atomiser, the cylindrical body decorated in relief with five dancing female figures, collar stamped 'Marny France', mount bright cut with formal floral sprays, underside 'R.Lalique made in France', 7cm high CONDITION REPORT: Glass body with no obvious cracks, chips or obvious condition issues. Gilt metal mounts showing wear with gilt missing in sections revealing the base metal. Mounts showing wear which is commensurate with use and would benefit from a clean. Robert Macaulay Stevenson - (Scottish 1854-1952), a hand written and signed letter to Constantine Alexander Ionides (1833-1900), collector and art patron, with a note to Miss Ionides from Pyotr Alexeevich Kropotkin (1842-1921), a letter from his wife Sofie Kropotkin and a further letter to Lallie in an unknown hand (4) The letter from Stevenson reads:9 Alpha Place NW Dear Mr Ionides I met Monkhouse the other day and in the course of conversation, found that you had sent me through Henley an invitation to come and see Professor Legros paint a head at your house. I certainly heard of the painting, but Henley's letter inviting me I never got. I must have seemed very rude in neither coming not taking any notice of your kindness. I hope you will excuse me and allow me to thank you for thinking of me. I should have been exceedingly glad to have seen the painting as it always gives me an excellent lesson and I am at this moment doing a portrait myself. With kind regards to Mrs Ionides and your family. I am yours faithfully R & M Stevenson

Good chequered leather grips. Grips complete, stitching good. Leather dry. Requires a clean otherwise a decent example.
