MEDALS, 中國 - 紀念章, Qing Dynasty 清朝 / Great Britain 英國: Silver China War Medal, Boxer Rebellion 八國聯軍 1900, no clasp (ASST. PAYR.. R. R. HAMER, R.N., H.M.S. ARETHUSA:), officially impressed. Polished, about extremely fine. Assistant Paymaster later Paymaster Commander R.R. Hamer, Royal Navy, served aboard the cruiser HMS Arethusa during the Boxer Rebellion. HMS Arethusa was a Leander class protected cruiser, launched in 1882 (4,300 tons). In the Great War he was present at Jutland, before dying in Simonstown, S Africa in 1942 during the Second World War, having been accounting officer to the Falklands Islands Survey in British Antarctica. R R Hamer had risen to the rank of Paymaster Commander. Sold with copy service records and a quantity of other research.

Flan split, coin very fine, countermark extremely fine, very rare. The obverse has a deep depression immediately behind the R countermark, suggesting the use of a pincer type tool for applying this mark, which might also account for the splitting of the flan
