Provenienza: Collezione privata siciliana Figlio di Giacomo Recco, Giuseppe è da considerarsi uno dei principali artefici della "natura in posa" del seicento napoletano. Formatosi nella bottega di famiglia, il pittore si dedicò prevalentemente alla produzione di genere ed in particolare alle nature morte che descrivevano con straordinaria verosimiglianza pesci, molluschi e crostacei. A tal proposito, fu nella piena maturità che creò eleganti composizioni dedicate alla fauna ittica, comunemente presentate su ripiani o scogli marini con straordinaria intensità visiva. A questi anni intorno al 1670-1680 si colloca la tela in esame. che esprime al meglio le qualità espressive del pittore che potè fregiarsi del titolo di cavaliere.Bibliografia: N. A REGENCY MAHOGANY OVAL WINE COOLERATTRIBUTED TO GILLOWS, CIRCA 1815Opening to a lead lined and divided interior70cm high, 69cm wide, 52cm deepFor a near identical example of wine cooler, see Christie's, New York, The Doris Duke Collection, 5th June 2004, Lot 452 ($23,900). For a further virtually identical example see Sotheby's, London, Important English Furniture, 30th June 2004, Lot 97 (£30,000). The oval wine-cistern may on occasion have served as a jardiniere and is embellished in the Grecian or Pompeian manner with reeded columnettes. Gillows' earliest sketch for an oval lead-lined cistern features in their 1787 Estimate Sketch Book (see: L. Boynton, Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, Royston, 1995, fig. 178). A similar wine cooler with a fluted cover, was formerly in the collection of the Earls of Stradbroke, Henham Hall, Suffolk. Interestingly, Henham Hall was designed by James Wyatt in the 1790s. The Wyatt family was closely associated with the Gillow family. A wine cooler of this model, again with a fluted cover, was sold from the Montague Meyer family collection, Christie's, London, 24th April 1980, Lot 57. It is illustrated on R, Edwards and P. Macquoid, the dictionary of English Furniture, London, rev. ed., 1954, vol. l, p. 223, fig 9. A third was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 27th November 2003, Lot 141. Another is illustrated in P. Macquoid, The Age of Satinwood, London, 1908, fig. 66.

Some old splits and chips. Some minor additional dark marks to the top. Slight movement within top. When the additional leaves are secured in position the joins do not perfectly align. There are gaps between some of the leaves and the table, but all stay in position. The leaves have also a slight droop and some adjustment with be required for the leaves to sit flat. The metal brackets and wingnuts to the underside of the top securing the stretchers are later. Some evidence of old worm to the block at the top of the stem. Montgomery instructed his Staff including Whitney to locate the train as he wanted to to tour around it as a statement of victory. Once they found the train Whitney took the small creamer Jug. It has a Nazi Eagle with D & R (Deutsches Reichbahn) and a code 241 on the base believed to correspond with Hitlers Train. Corporal H.F.Whitney Corps of Military was part of the security group around FM Montgomery from 1943. An important artifact with excellent provenance.

A FRENCH ORMOLU MOUNTED TIMEPIECEThe case mounted with two winged seahorses, movement stamped R 445, winding key, 24cm wide; 34cm high overallCondition report: Parts associated and made up. The case with scuffs scratches in areas. Mostly tarnishing to the back. The top hippocampus is loose. Dirt and dust to the recesses as to be expected.  The gilding colour is a little inconsistent with the rest. The dial is associated. The edges of the dial are partially concealed by the floral border of the case and hour hand over shooting the edge. White marble base with a few nicks but is associated, as are the feet. The working order of the movement is not checked or any guarantee offered of it's functionality.

Mounted for display with a quantity of research Lieutenant Gordon Victor King was born in Enfield Middlesex and enlisted into the county regiment in the ranks 1912 and landed in France on the 2nd March 1915 after service at Gibraltar. He saw action at Nieuve Chapelle and Hill 60. In June 1915 he was wounded and returned home and was later selected for a Commission and this was granted 24th February 1917.

Private Walter Hunt was born at Whitwell Norfolk and enlisted in December 1915. After training saw action with the 2nd Bn Norfolk Regiment in the middle east.

With a quantity of research. (2 Groups) Private William Partington of Salford Manchester enlisted into the Manchester regiment on the 15th November 1915. Landing France on the 4th August 1916. He later served with the 1st Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Private John Vickers of Bolton Lancashire enlisted August 1915 and landed in France June 1916 with the 1/12th Bn.

Two Pairs of medals comprising: British War Medal and Victory Medal awarded to 23373 PTE A TYSON Y&L R... & 34124 PTE W.J. PACKER G GDS. Both confirmed awarded the pair only. With a quantity of research. (2 Groups) Private Albert Tyson from Aston enlisted on the 9th December 1915. He was posted to France and joined the 12th (Sheffield City Pals) Bn on the 17th June 1916. He was wounded and gassed during his service in France. Private William James Packer of Painswick Gloucestershire joined the 1st Bn Grenadier Guards on the 9th December 1914, his brother also serving with the Regiment would be Killed on the 20th December 1914. However as a serving Police Officer he was placed on the reserve and did not get his chance until he landed in France on the 2nd November 1918 to join the 3rd Bn.

(2 Groups) Private Wilfred Derby of Bradford enlisted into the 8th Bn Kings Own on the 21st November 1917. He landed in France July 1918. Private Clifford Butterfield enlisted into the KOYLI in July 1917 and landed in France on the 12th April 1918
