The Golfer's Catechism A Vade Mecum to the Rules of Golf Browning, Robert H K published by H O Quinn, Ltd, London, UK, 1935. Illustrated 88 pages. The first book designed to explain the most common rules by way of official answers to queries to the R & A Rules Committee. Editor Browning writes in the introduction that with thirty years' experience, he believes "the problems he has set in this Catechism are in his opinion of sufficient range to meet the requirements of the average golfer in all stages of play." The 117 questions, selected from about 350 questions in the latest Decisions of the Rules book, are on the verso, the recto a blank ruled page for the reader's opinion. The correct answers to all questions are in the rear of the book for the reader's edification. When first sold, the Answer section, p. 53 to p.74, was closed with a small paper label, meant to be split by the reader after he wrote down his answers. The label halves are still present

Collection of late 19th c Edinburgh Evening Courant Newspapers interesting sporting section covering golf, hare coursing, football, horse racing from 1873 (4) to include newspapers January 23, 1873 the small report on Royal Aberdeen Golf Club announcing that his Royal Highness Prince Leopold is to present a silver challenge cup for competition and in addition to this Mrs Dingwall Fordyce of Brucklay Castle has promised to give a lady's cross to be completed for - "it would thus seem that golfing, which has recently become very popular in Aberdeen, will be followed up during the spring with even greater assiduity than last year". Together with other sporting events including hunting, coursing, football, Oxford and Cambridge boat race; February 1, 1873 with a report on St Andrews Links which once more at a standstill due to the intense frost and snow plus earlier reports on some of the principal matches played players included Tom Morris senior, Davy Strath, Mr J White Melville, Mr George Glennie (Blackheath) Mr Fernie, Mr Purdie plus further report on curling at various clubs, and hunting; February 3, 1873 with interesting report of Golf Amateur Champion Belt Westward Ho! Giving the details of the match between Mr W R S Vidal who held the belt, and the challenger Capt Molesworth giving nearly full account of the man hole by hole which was won by Captain Molesworth and the subsequent rematch by Mr Vine, but due to bad weather conditions and other commitments Mr Vidal had to return to Christchurch Oxford (without the belt); February 24, 1873 recording the principal matches played over St Andrews Links the previous week, players included Walter Gourlay, Jamie Anderson, Mr Thomas Hodge, Mr Tweddle, Mr Fernie, Mr Purdie, Mr J White Melville et al plus other reports on the Football, Racing and Coursing Notes
