Nicholas Matthew Condy (British, 1816-1851) Shipping on the Tamar, near Plymouth, Devon signed and dated "N M Condy pinxt 1834" lower left oil on panel 29 x 39cm (11 x 15in) Provenance: N R Omell, 6 Duke Street, St James's, London, SW1; Ennismore Gardens, Knightsbridge, London SW7 Oil on a wooden panel support. The paint layer has small, raised blisters, mainly located in the lower half of the painting. The blisters are unstable and have led to raised, flaking paint with scattered losses. There are areas of retouching, well matched to the original, covering age cracks. The varnish is clear, even and semi-matte. The frame is in a good condition.

The canvas and support are in a good condition. The varnish layer has yellowed but is glossy and acceptable. The frame is in a good condition.
Eugène Rémy Maes (Belgian, 1849–1931) Studies of cockerels, chickens and pigeons, in a farmyard, and in a barn both signed lower right "R Maes" oil on panel (a pair) 17 x 23cm (7 x 9in) Both paintings are in a similar condition and will be discussed together. The paintings are in oil on small wooden panel supports. The paint layers are showing signs of localised raised and flaking paint which is insecure with scattered paint losses. The varnish layer is degraded and no longer saturating in the darker paint passages. Both frames have small areas of loss to the gilded surface. - the frames have some chips.
