Ernest Constant Simon, French 1848-1895- "Canal de Venise a Maistre"; watercolour, signed, inscribed and dated Oct 1890, 42.5x62cm CONDITION REPORT: mounted in a 20th century glazed wooden moulding frame may or may not be stuck down as is unexamined out of the frame the edge of the mount has acidified which has discoloured the paper overall browned with early signs of foxing there are three visible tears approx 1cm in length in the top and lower right corner and the top left corner above the horizon in the far right section of the sky there appears to be areas of water damage which have spread the pigment of the paint away from the watermarked areas there is a restored 'r' shaped tear approx. 15cm in length below the horizon in the central-left side there are two losses to the paper approx. 4mm dia. one to the right of the wooden stump and one beneath the shrine overall in fair condition

* JOHN MACLAUCHLAN MILNE RSA (SCOTTISH 1885 - 1957), SANNOX BAY, ARRAN oil on canvas, signed 51cm x 61cm (20 x 24 inches) Framed Label verso: T & R Annann & Sons, Ltd., Glasgow. Note: It was supposedly on this beach that Milne met his second wife Elsie in the early 1940s. According to Milne's relatives, Elsie was walking along the beach with her sister when she saw a dapper looking gentleman wearing tweed and smoking a pipe walking towards them. They stopped to greet each other and introduce themselves as was customary. On parting, Elsie turned to her sister and said 'I am going to marry that man'. In 1946 Milne and Elsie's married. From their white-washed house on the top of the hill at High Corrie they had a view down to Sannox Bay. It was one of Milne's favourite views which he painted from various different spots on the hillside and sometimes lower down the hill.
David Hall McKewan, RWS (British, 1816–1873) Welsh mountain stream with climbers climbing the cliffs signed lower left "D H McKewan 1851" watercolour David Hall MacKewan studied water-colour painting under David Cox the Elder, and exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1836. McKewan obtained some note as a water-colour painter, especially in drawing rocky scenes and the interiors of old mansions, such as Knole and Haddon Hall. He was elected an associate of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water-colours in 1848, and a full member in 1850; he was a large contributor to the exhibitions of that society. McKewan died on 2 Aug. 1873. He published in 1869 'Lessons on Trees in Water Colours,' and made the drawings for R. P. Leitch's 'Landscape and other Studies in Sepia,' published in 1870. Bowing a little in the frame and old gilt frame has chips.
