Ornithological & natural history interest. Three 17th century and later engraved plates / etchings of birds. The lot comprising hand coloured engraving Plate 62 by Johann Leonhard Frisch from Vorstellung der Vogel Deutschlandes printed 1733-1763; 1678 line engraving from the Ornithology of Francis Willughby engraved by William Sherwin, depicting Grus (Crane) and Grus Baelerica (black crowned crane); and 1751 hand coloured engraving Plate 35 after Francois-Nicolas Martinet engraved by Robert Benard, depicting five birds, from Encyclopedie by Diderot and d'Alembert. All in very smart condition, just the odd light spot, no offsetting and minimal edgewear, the latter with one corner of the leaf folded over not affecting the illustration. It first appeared in retail in 1936, now published by Collins Crime Club. Considered one of the more affordable pre-war Christies due to its method of purchase, it being a short story collection rather than a novel, & the lack of her iconic protagonists, Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple.
