Isaac Newton galt nicht nur als führender Mathematiker seiner Zeit - von 1670 bis 1672 lehrte er Optik und hielt eine Antrittsvorlesungen über seine Theorie der Farben, wobei er besonders die Lichtbrechung untersuchte. Seine Theorien über das Licht und die Farben veröffentlichte er in dem Hauptwerk 'Opticks or a treatise of the reflections, refractions, inflections and colours of light' ('Optik oder eine Abhandlung über die Reflexion, Brechung, Beugung und die Farben des Lichtes').

THREE POTTERY `TEMPERANCE' NURSERY PLATES19th century Each of octagonal form with pink lustre rims, two printed and coloured with `Father Matthew' preaching, 14cm and 17cm wide, the third with a temperance coat of arms, 15cm wide; also a rectangular `Prepare to meet thy god' plaque, 16cm wide and two religious subject plates ( 6)The larger Father Matthew plate with tow shallow chips and some nibbles around the rim. The smaller example with some light staining. The plate with the temperance arms in overall good condition. The rectangular plaque with some glaze chipping to the surface. The two religious plates with some staining. The example with the moulded flowerhead border has also repaired breaks.

JUDAICA: A JEWISH BRASS SABBATH LAMP WIITH RATCHET HOOK (2)Possibly German, 19th Century The brass lamp with six burners, the lamp 35cm, the ratchet hook 29cm unextendedCondition report: Missing a drip pan from the underside of the star-shaped light well; there is a suspension loop. The ratchet mechanism is jammed and currently it is not possible to adjust. The gilt finish is tarnished. Some engraved/incised decoration to the upright and hook. The ratchet could be associated, given the slight difference in metal. The brass lamp with some areas of tarnishing. Later added in fittings to accommodate electrical wiring.
