Anthony Day (British, 20th Century) University Gardens, Reading signed lower left "Anthony Day, 1955" elimination linocut, unique artist’s proof, 1955 29 x 37cm the elimination linocut method was introduced by William McCance during the Second World War when linoleum was in very short supply, one block being used for overlaid colours, working from light to dark. As a result of this method no two prints were alike. This student work is one of only two examples completed, each with its own colour scheme.
