The varnish is a little patchy which may result in some areas fluorescing darker than others. The work is well-presented, in a stable condition, and ready to hang.

There is a patch to the canvas verso corresponding to the horse's flank. No obvious retouching or damage to the recto. Some cockling. Under UV light, there is a small amount of retouching to the straw beneath the dog's front feet.

There is soe unevenness to the surface, craquelure and stretcher marks apparent. Surface dirt, would benefit from a light clean. Under UV light, there are spots and flecks of retouching in places throughout with several larger patches that are possibly small repaired tears, most noticably to the foreground to the right of the figure and around the horse's legs.

English School, 19th centuryMounted sportsmen with guns over pointers, a country house beyondoil on canvas46 x 61cmFramed size: 53 x 67.5cm.Some surface dirt to sky area, would benefit from a light clean, a few specks of white paint? to sky and to arm of furthest figure to the left, two specks of paint loss lower centre, canvas a little loose and is coming away from nails at the back, under uv light small patch of retouching to sky, and there is some fluorescing to horses's legs/chest where possibly a bit of retouching but this is not overly clear - please see images. Small losses to frame at corners. This is based on close observation under raking light, and when stood back looking at the work on a wall, in our opinion, these do not overly distract and it remains a pleasing image. Lot 46

George Wright (1860-1942)'Gone to Earth'signed 'G. Wright' l.r., oil on canvas56 x 92cmFramed size: 69 x 104cm. The canvas has been lined. There is a just visible fine craquelure in parts and faint stretcher mark to the right edge. There are several tiny abrasions with corresponding paint loss, one to the centre and a tiny one to the lower right, see illustration. The surface is covered with a thick layer of varnish which obscures much of the surface, however, occasional minor restorations are apparent in places, including a spot to the side of the right hand dog, and some strengthening to the edge of the standing rider's coat. With the naked eye in raking light, there are some small areas in places where the varnish looks a little patch, however, there are no significant signs of repaired damages and the paint is not thin. Generally, the work is presented ready to hang in a stable and clean condition, nicely framed in a suitable gilt composition frame.

Emil Rozsay (1839-1891)A wooded landscape with deer by a poolsigned 'Rozsay' and dated (1)878.VI.10, l.r., oil on canvas100 x 82.5cm The painting is executed in oil on a canvas support which appears be unlined. The canvas tension is slightly slack and stretcher bar marks have formed in the paint layer. Two prominent stretcher bar marks run horizontally across the centre of the painting and the paint here is raised and flaking. There are a few scattered losses to the paint layer which have been retouched, but overall, the paint layers are stable and secure. The varnish has slightly yellowed and is even and semi-glossy with a light layer of surface dirt.
