Set of six late 19th century Royal Doulton Harlequin coffee cups and saucers, with classical style decoration, having gilt swags, urn shaped vases and figural statues, retailed by Geo. L. Emerson, Boston Mass (12) Condition Report The light and deep pink cups have some scratching to the main body. Deep pink saucer has crazing. Cobalt blue cup has crazing and a fault to the paintwork. Colonel James Henry Gordon, C.B., D.S.O., a group of three medals, comprising Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Distinguished Service Order, and India General Service Medal with single clasp, Burma 1885-7, named to Lieut't Col. J. H. Gordon 23rd Madras Inf'y, together with miniatures and original warrants and associated letters for C.B. dated 03.06.1893, and D.S.O. dated 01.07.1887. James Henry Gordon, Colonel, born 25 Jan 1839, Blackheath, Kent. Joined the Indian Army 1857. Served in Burma, Commanding the 23 Madras Light Infantry, was present at the taking of Mandalay, twice mentioned in Dispatches, created DSO, 1897 & CB Madras Staff Corps; retired 1895. James Henry Gordon was the youngest child of Adam Gordon. His two elder brothers were respectively the 17th and 18th Lairds of Abergeldie. Another brother was Dundas William Gordon (killed in action, Lucknow, 1858) - please see letter Lot 1011. This lot also includes some research papers and a scanned copy of a carte de visite photograph of Colonel Gordon in civilian clothing.

Major Cornish Frederick Henley, a group of five medals, comprising Queen's South Africa Medal with four clasps, Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Transvaal, King's South Africa Medal, with two clasps, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902, named to Lieut. C.F. Henley. Oxford L.I.,1914-15 Star, named to Capt. C.F. Henley. Oxf.& Bucks. L.I., British War Medal and Victory Medal with bronze oak leaf on ribbon, named to Major C.F. Henley, together with miniatures and two original warrants dated 13.08.1895 and 03.05.1898, a KUT button badge (Prisoner of KUT) and an Elliott and Fry Ltd black and white studio photograph of Major C.F. Henley in uniform showing medals. Major Cornish Frederick. Henley 1st Bn. Ox & Bucks LI, taken prisoner by the Turks at Kut al Amara . Mesopotamia, in 1916. His diary written during his capture is known to have existed and may be held in the Light Infantry museum. He died in 1946, Cornish Frederick Henley was born in June 1878 in Marylebone, Middlesex, England, his father, Edward Francis Henley, was 33 (brother of Lt. George Henley R.N.) and his mother, Annie Louisa Henley (nee Du Croz), was 27. C. F. Henley married Agnes Rhind Stevenson in October 1908. They had two children, Anthony Cornish Henley and Edward Cornish Henley. C.F. Henley died on April 25, 1946, in Farnham, Surrey, England, at the age of 67. Major C.F. Henley was very involved with the Legion of Frontiersmen and was the Squadron leader of the Farnham Squadron in Surrey. This lot also includes some research papers and scanned photograph portraits, together with excerpts from books and articles relating to Kut and the actions of the 1st Battalion 43rd Oxford and Buckinghamshire Regiment in Mesopotamia 1914-1917 with reference to Capt./Major C.F.
