Good Working Order and Condition (light wear and surface rust to lock, cock probably a contemporary replacement, top jaw and screw missing). Plate 38

Good Working Order and Condition (some light pitting to bayonet, top jaw and screw missing) Plate 39

A rare, possibly unique, take down flintlock blunderbuss with spring bayonet, by Sharpe, c 1800, 31½” overall, bell mouth barrel 15½”, comprising 7” steel breech section with platinum touch hole, false breech with slightly raised panels, and engraved with sunburst, and screw off 9” brass muzzle section, with 8” spring bayonet beneath; flat line engraved lock having flat swan neck cock and roller on the frizzen spring, plate engraved “Sharpe” and with small bird in flight on the tail; walnut halfstock with chequered wrist, the butt being detachable by means of a bayonet catch, engraved steel mounts including trigger guard with pineapple finial, trigger beneath the fore end which operates a rod through the ramrod pipe to release the bayonet, and with rectangular silver barrel wedge plates and horn fore end cap. Good Working Order and Condition (some scoring to stock, light surface rust to breech, patches of deeper rust to the bayonet, bayonet locking lug missing). When dismantled these three parts occupy a maximum length of 12”. Plate 40

A scarce 15.4mm Prussian Dreyse Model 1841 bolt action needle fire rifle, 56” overall, barrel 35” with deep 4 groove rifling, breech stamped with crowned “FW” cypher, various inspector’s marks and serial number “355”; action stamped with eagle on lightning bolts above “Saarn” and dates 1856 and 1859; walnut fullstock with cheekpiece, brass mounts comprising three barrel bands and trigger guard with spurred grip, steel butt plate with traces of regimental markings on the tang, sling swivels and original cleaning rod. Good Working Order and Condition,(some service wear, metalwork slightly worn with light rust marking), with its triangular socket bayonet (slightly worn with dark patina). Plate 42

A rare, possibly unique, .577/450” private purchase Martini Henry 2 band rifle which converts to a carbine, by the Braendlin Armoury Co of Birmingham, 49” overall, barrel 33”, the front 12½” of which, together with its woodwork, mounts and sight, is quickly detachable by means of an interrupted thread on the barrel and a spring catch beneath the fore end, the remaining carbine barrel having its own fore sight, breech with standard military pattern rearsight and bearing Birmingham proofs, and stamped with very small “Henry’s Patent” and “Chas Ingram, Glasgow”; the frame bearing the Martini patent mark, crossed flags over “B” mark of the Braendlin Armoury Co and stamped “Martini’s Patent” and serial number 10172; the walnut fullstock of regular pattern with steel mounts and sling swivels, the first part of the cleaning rod groove filled as it is partly occupied by the barrel release catch. Good Working Order and Condition, retaining much blued finish to the barrel and some of the frame (small patches of light rust and small spots of pitting) Plate 43

A good cased pair of officer’s 14 bore flintlock holster pistols by Alexander Wilson, London, in the style of duelling pistols, c 1820, 14” overall, heavy sighted octagonal barrels 9” with scratch rifling, single gold line at breech, platinum touch hole and rectangular recess for maker’s poincon (now missing); flat locks with safety bolt, French style cock, rainproof pan, and cam and roller on frizzen spring and frizzen, the plate engraved with fern tip border, sunburst, small spray of foliage, and signed “Alex.Wilson, London”; walnut halfstocks with rounded chequered butt, having horn fore end cap, silver barrel wedge plates and escutcheons, and steel mounts comprising small domed butt cap with tail, spurred border engraved trigger guard with trophies and pineapple finial, and pineapple throat pipe; with swivel ramrod. Good Working Order and Condition, the locks quite crisp (patches of light staining to barrels and mounts); in their green baize lined fitted mahogany case with brass folding carrying handle and circular escutcheon in the lid, and with trade label of William Bond, 59 Lombard St, London,containing 3 way leather covered flask (leather bubbled, base detached), 16 bore steel pincer ball mould, brass tipped mahogany loading/cleaning rod with worm and jag, double ended screwdriver, balls, and patches. Good Condition(the central compartment loose) Plate 44

A cased 5 shot 38 bore Adams model 1851 “Dragoon” self cocking percussion revolver,13½” overall, barrel 8” engraved “Deane, Adams & Deane (Makers to H.R.H. Prince Albert) 30 King William St. London Bridge”; London proved only on the cylinder; frame engraved with scrolls and “Adams’s Patent No 1419”; with scroll engraved trigger guard and chequered walnut butt, the steel butt cap with hinged trap containing a spare nipple. Good Working Order and Condition, retaining some original blued finish (patches of light rust staining overall, a small hole drilled through the butt); in its green baize lined fitted oak case with circular brass lid escutcheon, containing an Adams marked double cavity bronze mould for bullet and ball, a bag shaped copper flask (spring broken), an Eley cap tin with paper label (worn), and a pewter oil bottle by Dixon. Basically Good Condition (lining mothed, compartment partitions loose). Plate 46

A fine cased pair of German 60 bore percussion target or duelling pistols by G. Noack of Berlin, c 1860, 14½” overall, octagonal twist barrels 9”, deeply etched in contrasting colours and silver inlaid “G. Noack In Berlin”, with scroll engraved false breeches, German silver blade foresights and deep 8 groove rifling; breech tangs profusely scroll engraved, numbered “1” and”2” respectively, and with key adjustable rearsights; back action locks and dolphin head hammers profusely scroll engraved, and originally fitted with safety catches, now missing; light walnut half stocks having scroll carved chequered panels and flared butts, and with German silver barrel wedge plates; steel mounts comprise engraved oval butt caps with domed finials, each bearing the serial number 7568, and profusely engraved spurred trigger guards housing single set triggers. Very Good Condition, one action is in good working order, the other fails to hold on full cock, both were originally fitted with safety catches, now missing; in their close fitted blue velvet lined light mahogany case with rounded rosewood edging and small shield shaped brass lid escutcheon, containing bright steel double cavity mould for bullet and ball in as new condition, bush embossed copper flask with much original lacquer, nipple key with octagonal walnut handle, steel loading/cleaning rod with accessories, adjustable tubular brass powder measure, sight adjusting key, ivory cap box, brass oil bottle and nipple holder with two spare nipples. The whole in good clean condition (minor wear to velvet lining, case lid very slightly warped). Plate 47

A Victorian trooper’s helmet of the Fife Light Horse, brass edge bound white metal skull, top mount and spike, with white hair plume and small brass rosette, white metal crowned star helmet plate bearing the Thane of Fife on brass cross below this a white metal motto scroll “Pro Aris et Focis” with brass “FLH” in the centre, fabric headband (remainder of lining missing). Good Condition (very minor dents to skull). Plate 6

An interesting and unusual military bandsman’s sword c 1835, broad spatulate blade 20”, with twin and single fullers, heavy brass hilt, the straight crossguard with inset oak wreath panels and ornamental finials, the panelled grip with trophy of fasces and instruments over “6” (probably The 6th (Royal First Warwickshire) Regiment) over rosette of instruments on each side, lion’s head pommel with ring, see Wilkinson “British Military Bayonets” p10 for a similar pattern hilt to the 52nd Light Infantry. A Victorian officer’s mameluke hilted sword of the 10th Royal Hussars, curved fullered blade 32”, etched in scrolled, foliate panels, on one side with crowned VR cypher, “Royal/ X/ Hussars” and maker’s name “Wheeler & Robinson, 9 Prince’s St, Hanover Sqr (? unclear), London” and on the side with “X” in oval strap inscribed “The Prince of Wales’s Own Hussars” surmounted by feathers and motto, with battle honours “Peninsula” and “Waterloo” below, gilt mounted hilt, the crossguard with stud terminals and plain langets, back strap to ivory grips (tiny chip) with rosettes, in a non original silver plated scabbard with 2 rings. Good Condition (hilt regilt, blade some wear and light pitting patches). Plate 20

A group of mainly WWII Australian insignia, including cap badges of the RAAF and ASC, collar badges of 1st Light Horse Regt, Signals, Ordnance, Staff Corps and an earlier Garrison Artillery, wreath type metal trade badges include MG, and wireless operator, other arm badges including armoured car, various shoulder titles, crowns, pips and buttons, and a lapel badge of the Civilian Constructional Corps, mtd on a piece of buff felt; also 22 naval cloth arm badges and Australian formation patches, mounted on a piece of blue felt. GC The vendor states that these were brought back from Australia by a US soldier in WWII.

Basically GC (some wear, dark patina overall).

Basically GC (dark surface rust patina to hilt and scabbard).

GWO & basically GC (no visible markings or proofs, metalwork with light to moderate pitting overall, the butt scuffed and requires cleaning). Probably an experimental or prototype piece. Plate 8
