Lot 357

George Goodwin Kilburne RI, RBA (1839-1924) The Timepiece - an elegant lady standing in an interior setting the time on a pocket watch Signed, watercolour, 22.5cm by 16.5cm See illustration . In an overall good state of preservation. Some light time staining to the sheet and overall subtle muting of colour. George Goodwin Kilburne RI, RBA (1839-1924) The Duet - two elegant ladies seated in a interior playing music Signed, watercolour, 24cm by 34cm Provenance: Baron Fine Art, Chester See illustration . The size indicated is the sight size of the painting within the mount, not including framing. There is one tiny nick to approx. centre of the sheet just below the upper mount and a further smaller imperfection approx. 0.5cm to the right of the seated lady's chignon. Each appear to have been mildly disguised with a pale coloured paint but remain very minor. Relatively light time staining to paper with slight reduction of overall colour. Generally in an overall good state of preservation. No evidence of cockling. Not examined out of the frame.

Lot 370

Thomas Miles Richardson Jnr. RWS (1813-1890) Figures resting by the roadside, a scene on the Italian lakes Signed and indistinctly dated, watercolour heightened with white, 42cm by 62cm Provenance: Thomas Agnew & Sons, London With Christie's stencil to reverse 930 FM See illustration . In an overall good state of preservation. The highlights within the sky have discoloured and are showing as a light yellow-brown. Some of the detailing in the mountains on the right hand side and highlighted elements within the upper reaches of the hilltop supporting the castle to the left of this have also oxidised to a more pronounced ochre to terracotta colour depth. The colour depth broadly remains good and mostly intact. Further more pronounced oxidation around the white highlights indicating the edges of the lake within the foreground. Some pencil working still in evidence above the tower to the left and around the trees. No evidence of cockling. Not examined out of the frame.

Lot 371

Edward Duncan (1803-1882) Travellers on a coastal pathway Signed and dated 1873, pencil and watercolour, 20cm by 36cm . Relatively light to moderate time staining across the sheet. Most pronounced within the sky and less worked areas and also more concentrated towards the outer edges. Some dampening of general colour depth but vibrancy of reds and blues etc remains essentially good. Very slight discoloured scuff/pencil mark running vertically above the horizon line on left hand side and approx 1.5cm from outer edge. No evidence of cockling. Not examined out of the frame.

Widely spaced cockling throughout. Overall condition reasonable to good.

Lot 433

David Gauld (1865-1936) Scottish Portrait of Mrs Matthew Dickie, wearing a brown satin dress with fur stole and muff, three quarter length Portrait of a gentleman, presumed to be Mr Matthew Dicke, wearing a dark green overcoat and holding a cane, three quarter length Signed, oil on canvas, 158.5cm by 91cm (2) See illustration . Mrs Dickie - Is in an overall good and original state of preservation. Relatively light surface dirt and discoloured varnish. Canvas slightly adrift from frame in upper right hand corner and original pin hole evident to upper right hand corner. Odd white coloured small sized splash marks essentially to lower left hand corner and can be easily removed. Canvas every so slightly loose on stretcher. Not presenting any adverse of associated issues. Areas of fine stable craquelure especially within the darker tones of the brown paint. The lower edge of the canvas and frame would appear to have sustained a water? damage along the full length and effects an area of approx 6-7cm at its widest point. Photographs can be supplied. Otherwise in good condition with remaining impasto and brushwork throughout. Mr Dickie - In generally highly comparable condition to his wife. More pronounced and evident fine stable craquelure especially across the face. An amount of relatively minor scratches nicks and scuff marks to upper left hand corner and left hand side edge. Small cluster of further minor surface scratches and gentleman's bent elbow approx 5 on both diagonal, horizontal and vertical, the longest at approx 2cm in length. A greater amount of white coloured splashes mostly contained to lower third of painting (which can be easily removed). Further odd scratch/abrasion to outer edge. There is a similar level of water staining to lower edge of frame and painting in addition to a number of more significant varying directions of scratches and lengths within the lower band of approx 5cm and more concentrated scuffs and scratches to lower right hand corner (images can be provided). Two small pushmarks from reverse right hand side edge which do not puncture canvas but are seen as two small losses of paint approx 7-8cm above signature on right hand side edge.
