(Ukyo-e, Bijin-ga) - EISHI, Chôbunsai (1756-1829).- Courtisanes, parmi lesquelles Kokonoe de la maison Echizenya, regardant des cerisiers en fleurs.Ôban tate-e, benigirai, signé Eishi ga (qqs rouss. dans la partie sup. et un peu plus dans le visage de la 3e courtisane, qqs plis, us.).Sous passe-partout de tissu écru, vitre et cadre de bois part. marqueté (J. Gonthier à Bruxelles) (non désencadré).Par rapport à d`autres tirages de cette estampe (par ex. celle conservée au MFA de Boston), le bois est mieux encré et les parties finement gravées des cheveux bien nettes, mais les parties rosées avec motifs ont légèrement viré dans les kimonos des enfants. Fait partie d`un triptyque.Eishi, fils aîné d`un samurai disciple d`Utamaro, fut formé par Eisen-in. Il eut comme modèle d`inspiration Shigemasa, puis Kiyonaga et Utamaro. Dialogi, le vere narrationi, le facete epistole [...].(Vinegia [Venise], per Bernardin Bindon, 1543).In-8° : [1]-223-[1] lvs (some marginal brown staining at the beginning or at the end, light foxing, some mistakes in pagination, marginal tear at lf. 143 reinforced, marginal handwritten notes at the end, handwritten provenance and designs over the printer`s mark on the last lf.).Contemporary binding : full limp parchment with small flaps and ties, flat spine (lacks of parchment at the back, ties partly cut, 1 tie lacking, wormholes in the inside of the upper board).Very rare digest composed of 29 dialogues on historical and mythological items of which 16 by Lucianus of Samosata (125-180) including the two books of "A True Story" with the first narration of a voyage and a stay on the moon. The 13 other of more popular subjects are written by different amateurs. Translated in Italian by the writer, bookseller and publisher Nicolò Zoppino ("Nicolò di Aristotile de Rossi detto lo Zoppino"), illustrated with several nice woodcuts. The first edition of this digest was published in 1525. Typographical title within a woodcut frame with portraits of emperors and curious vignette figuring a bull with the monogram "MS" on the last leaf (printer`s mark ?). # STC Italian, p. 396; # Graesse IV-283; # not in Adams, Machiels, Soltész. REISCH, Gregor; FINE, Oronce.- Margarita philosophica, hoc est Habituum seu Disciplinum omnium [...] .Basileae, per Sebastianum Henricpetri, (1583).In-8° : [40]-1403-[3]-[2 bl.] pp. (folding worldmap and musical plate lacking, light foxing, marginal tear p. 973, some lack of paper in the margin of p. 1065).Contemporary binding : full calf, blind tooled decoration on the boards : 2 roll-stamps, the outter one with portraits of saints, the inner one with geometrical patterns, surrounding a central panel with the monogram IHS, ribbed spine, gilt edges (lower board, part of the upper board and spine restored, brass clasps renewed).Enlarged edition by Oronce Fine of the "Philosophical pearl" (first edited at the beginning of the 16th Century), a compendium of the trivium, the quadrivium and the natural and moral sciences, composed as a series of dialogues on grammar, logic, arithmetics, music, ethics... with elaborate chapters on astronomy and geometry. Reisch (Wurtemberg (?)-1523 Freiburg) was prior of Saint John the Baptist at Freiburg in Breisgau and confessor to Maximilian I. Fine (1494-1555), a French cartographer and astronomer, taught mathematics at the Collège de France. His preface to this edition is dated 1523. Illustrated with about 20 full-page woodcuts (the creation of Eve, the wheel of fortune, anatomy of the eye, studies in perspective, allegorical representations of the septem artes liberales...) and various in texto engravings concerning anatomy, astronomy, music... An Ed VII 1827 pattern rifle officer’s sword, straight, plated blade, 32”, by Wilkinsons, no 41532 (for 1907), etched with crowned R Arms, Ed VII cypher and wreath within scrolled floral panels, regulation steel hilt incorporating crowned strung bugle, Wilkinsons solid grip, backstrap and pommel, in its plated scabbard. A late 18th century 16 bore Turkish flintlock holster pistol, 18¾” overall, barrel 11¾” with simple engraved decoration at breech and slightly flared muzzle; thick engraved lock, the unbridled frizzen with ribbed face, the cock with squared jaws; the fullstock carved overall, the butt also inlaid with wire scrolls; the steel mounts include ribbed trigger guard and long spurred butt cap with domed finial.
