He studied under Max Klaus in Berlin, under Hans Thiemann in Leipzig and also in Paris and Amsterdam before fleeing to England in 1939 to serve in the British army throughout the war. Portner exhibited widely in London in the 1960's and at galleries in South Africa and America. ++ Principal item good, the others with some staining, creases etc (each only fair)

A Solitaire Diamond Ring, a round brilliant cut diamond in an extended claw setting to a tapering shank, estimated diamond weight 0.40 carat approximately, finger size TThe ring is in good condition. There is light surface wear to the shank. It is stamped '18CT' and in our opinion would test as gold. The diamond has a surface reaching fracture to the table. The diamond measures 5.05mm x 4.99mm x 2.42mm approximately. The approximate qualities of the diamond are; colour H/I, clarity SI2/I1. Gross weight 4.2 grams. There is loss to the blue enamel of the sword stick pin and light wear to the seed pearls. The approximate qualities of the diamond are; colour H/I, clarity SI1/SI2. Gross weight 5.3 grams. A Victorian Amethyst, Citrine and Seed Pearl Snake Brooch, and oval centre formed of a calibré cut citrine between two amethyst within a seed pearl coiled snake motif frame, with a glazed locket back, measures 2.5cm by 3.5cm The brooch is in good condition. There is one seed pearl deficient from the tip of the snake's nose and general light wear and discolouration to the seed pearls. It fastens with a pin and c-hook with a safety chain. Gross weight 12.6 grams. Condition Report made 5th December 2017.

A Victorian Turquoise Bracelet, formed of open work milgrain links set at intervals with turquoise, length 19cm approximately The bracelet is in good condition. There is an old repair noted to one turquoise set connector link with traces of lead solder. There is some very light discolouration noted to a few turquoise. It is stamped '15CT' and in our opinion would test as gold. It fastens with a box and tongue clasp and features a safety chain. Gross weight 12.8 grams. Condition Report made 31st May 2017.

There is light wear and discolouration to the seed pearls. The tip of the birds wing is bent over slightly. Two outer birds are of darker colouration to the rest. It is stamped '15CT' and in our opinion would test as gold. It fastens with a pin and c-hook. Gross weight 5.3 grams. Condition Report made 5th December 2017.

It is not hallmarked or stamped but in our opinion would test as brass. Condition Report made 22nd December 2017.

A George V Silver Four Piece Tea Service, Mahoah Rhodes, Sheffield, 1930, circular with a band of engraved decoration to rim, foot and cover, ivory handles and finials, the teapot 16.5cm high, 62.9ozt (4)All marks clearly struck and legible, some rubbing to the maker's mark on sugar bowl. Covers part marked. Some cracks appearing in the ivory handles and finials. The peices are of a good gauge. Some light scratching and general signs of wear.

A Victorian Scottish Hardstone Plaid Brooch, set with hardstone plaques and citrine cabochons, measures 5cm by 4cm, A Paste Set Ptarmigan Brooch and A Citrine Brooch (3)The hardstone plaid brooch is in good condition. It is stamped with a Victorian diamond trade mark indicating the brooch is made of metal (in our opinion would test of silver), bundle 3, dated 29th March 1873. The other brooches are in good condition with light general wear, the tips of the ptarmigan claws are chipped. Condition Report made 8th December 2017.

An Enamelled Equine Portrait Crop Brooch, measures 2.5cm by 6.5cm The brooch is in good condition, the circular plaque is later applied and one screw is loose. The enamel is in good condition with very light surface scratching. The circular plaque is stamped 18CT and the crop is stamped 15CT. It fastens with a safety pin clasp. Gross weight 9.3 grams. EARLY 19TH CENTURY ENGLISH SCHOOL; a pair of oval portrait miniatures 'Lord Horatio Nelson' and 'Emma Hamilton', mounted in an elaborate gilt frame with twin hinged doors and pierced foliate border stamped 'Toulmin & Gale, 7 New Bond St, London', each miniature 8 x 5cm, the frame 21.25 x 16cm. CONDITION REPORT: The hinged back is a replacement, very light surface wear to the gilt decoration, there is a small break to the bottom right hand corner of the frame. The miniatures themselves are in good order and are protected by the doors.

CONDITION REPORT: In playworn condition throughout. Some chips to the paint work. Core mechanism appears OK although it has not been tested.

CONDITION REPORT: All playworn, areas of discolouration and chips to the finish, some attention required.

BREQUET; an exceptionally rare mahogany cased telegraph transmitter and receiver, the shaped hinged lid enclosing the upper mahogany cased section with white dial printed with numerals and letters of the alphabet, the base section with brass dial set with numerals and letters of the alphabet with twin side turn handled knobs and turned front feet. CONDITION REPORT: Postage to the USA for this lot would be approximately £109 + VAT depending on the final hammer price. Parts move freely, light surface wear but overall good.
