Golden Cockerel Press.- Keats (John) Endymion: A Poetic Romance, number 77 of 100 specially-bound copies signed by the artist, from an edition limited to 500, wood-engraved illustrations by John Buckland Wright, some full-page, very light foxing to a couple of leaves but far less than usual, original pictorial vellum, gilt, by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, with Cynthia Goddess of the Moon by Buckland Wright in gilt to covers, t.e.g., others uncut, cloth slip-case, [Cockalorum 175; Reid A47a], small folio, Golden Cockerel Press, 1947.⁂ Buckland Wright took over four years to produce this work and considered it to be his greatest achievement."In his 58 illustrations Buckland Wright is both as classical and as romantic as the poet could have desired. His vision, it seems to me, approaches that of Keats as closely as is possible for any artist working in our generation. While there is more than a hint of classicism in his admirable figures, their groupings and settings are romantic." Christopher Sandford in Cockalorum.

His numerous one man shows in London in particular enjoy huge success and his sell out exhibition at Thompson's Gallery (London) in 2004 was reported on BBC's "Breakfast" as "one of the biggest contemporary art exhibitions in London in recent years". Robert has been a regular exhibitor for many years at The Royal Glasgow Institute, The Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Paisley Art Institute, The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour and The Royal Scottish Academy. His style is distinctly "Contemporary Scottish Colourist" and although his work reveals his GSA training the strongest influences remain Peploe and Cadell. Robert writes : "I love the loneliness and serenity to be found at certain locations such as the beaches of the Outer Hebrides. I say "loneliness", which sounds like a bad thing, better to describe it as being at peace in serene places, where you can be alone with your thoughts, listen to the sea birds and the trickle of water". Robert's home and studio are in Paisley but his commercial success has allowed him to travel the world in search of the light and colour that are such strong features within his work. This broadening of horizons has been reflected in his "gallery prices" as his career and reputation continues to flourish. Kelsey collectors include : Sir Arnold Clark, The Duke of Bedford, Lord McFarlane of Bearsden, Cairn Energy PLC, Credit Lyonnais Bank, Taylor Woodrow, The Dunfermline Building Society, Highland Spring Water, Enterprise Oil, Paisley Art Gallery, Turnberry Hotel & Golf Club, Alliance & Leicester Building Society, Arisaig Partners (Asia) and The Fleming Collection.

His work reflects their influences and those of the Scottish colourists who like him, spent much time in the wonderful light and colours of the West Coast. Painting in this tradition, he works with oils on canvas, using both brush and knife. In 1985, after many years in banking, he returned to Art & Design when he established an interior design company in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. He continued to work in oils, mainly commissions for corporate and private clients, but it was not until 1999, when the company was sold, that more time became available for painting. His work is successfully shown in many galleries in England, Scotland and abroad, most recently in Istanbul, where he was invited, as a result of commission work, to have a solo exhibition at the British Embassy, and a subsequent solo at one of the premier galleries in the city. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts, London, in November 2004. In recent years exhibition venues have included: Rowles Fine Arts, Strathearn Gallery, Greens & Blues Gallery, Morningside Gallery, Annan Gallery, Iona House Gallery, Alpha Gallery, Queens Gallery, Gigha Gallery and Frames Gallery.
