Victoria Cross winner for his actions during Operation Chastise (The Dambusters Raid) on the Mohne and Eder Dams in Germany, 16th May 1943. Book signed, a hardback slim folio volume entitled Taoiseach-Then and Now by William Hugh Coverdale, being a history and narrative of the Kingdom of the Saguenay, the illustrated volume published in Canada, 1942. Signed (`Guy P Gibson`) and dated 22nd August 1943 in his hand to the front free endpaper. Gibson`s bold fountain pen ink signature appears at the head of nine other signatures by various other personnel associated with Operation Quadrant including Ernest J. King (1878-1956) American Admiral of World War II; Louis Mountbatten (1900-1979) British Admiral of the Fleet during World War II; William D. Leahy (1875-1959) American Admiral of World War II and George Marshall (1880-1959) American General of World War II, Nobel Peace Prize winner, 1953. Each of the signatures are in bold dark fountain pen ink. Together with a small, interesting selection of unsigned printed ephemera and 8 x 10 photographs (3) relating to Operation Quadrant, including a restricted Telephone Directory, 14th August 1943, (numbers include Guy Gibson, Anthony Eden, Ernest King, George Marshall, Louis Mountbatten, Dudley Pound, Charles Portal, Louis St. Laurent and many others), and other Most Secret documents relating to arrangements for office and sleeping accommodation, meals and refreshments, transportation and security during the meeting at the Chateau Frontenac Hotel in Quebec. Some of the items bear the ownership signature of Marjorie Lightning who is listed as a secretary in the typing pool of the British Delegation within the telephone directory. [HITLER ADOLF]: (1889-1945) Fuhrer of the Third Reich 1934-45. A brass sconce electric light fixture, featuring a fluted bowl, apparently removed from the wall of Adolf Hitler`s office in the Reich Chancellery in Berlin. Accompanied by a copy of a letter of provenance by David Harris Engel, stating that he removed the light fixture in June 1945 and was `one of the first American officers to enter Berlin during that period, while on duty at the Potsdam Conference in the summer of 1945`. Also included is an original letter of provenance signed by Charles Hamilton, dated 26th June 1995, stating that he obtained the light fixture directly from the World War II veteran David Engel. MANCHESTER UNITED: An official printed 8vo United Review programme for Manchester United v. Atletico De Bilbao at Maine Road, 6th February 1957, European Cup Quarter Final, Second Leg, individually signed to the front cover image (showing action from the First Leg) by eleven members of the Manchester United team, Bill Foulkes, Roger Byrne, Eddie Colman, Mark Jones, Duncan Edwards, Johnny Berry, Tommy Taylor, Dennis Viollet, David Pegg, Wilf McGuinness and Geoff Bent. Each of the signatures are to clear areas and the majority are in bold blue fountain pen ink. Rare. A light central vertical folds runs through the programme, about VG After trailing 5-3 from the first leg, Manchester United won the second leg 3-0, taking the tie to 6-5 on aggregate. They lost 5-3 on aggregate to Real Madrid in the semi-final, the Spanish team going on to win the European Cup in it`s second season, having also won the trophy in the first season. Dennis Viollet was the competition`s highest scorer with nine goals. Exactly a year to the date after this match, the tragic Munich Air disaster took place, which resulted in the deaths of a number of the Busby Babes, including seven who signed this programme-Geoff Bent, Roger Byrne, Eddie Colman, Duncan Edwards, Mark Jones, David Pegg and Tommy Taylor. Survivors of the crash included Johnny Berry, Bill Foulkes and Dennis Viollet.
