In May 1943 his Ventura was shot down and he was two years a POW in Stalag Luft III. Actively took part in digging the tunnel used in The Great Escape. In light of 50 escapees being murdered by the Gestapo, he was fortunate to be recaptured just two metres from the tunnel exit and returned to the camp. Good condition.
