CHARLES LAMB (1893-1964) "River landscape with figure in rowboat", oil on canvas, signed and dated '29 bottom left (ARR) CONDITION REPORTS Please note that the size of the picture is approx 35.5cm x 53.5cm. Wear, dirt and scuffs. Under UV light the surface overall is cloudy white. Possibly revarnished, although the finish is currently dull / matt in appearance. Craquelure. Some lifting of paint,and flaking. Some areas have flaked off and are missing - particularly amongst trees, and an area to the right of the picture, but also some small flakes missing throughout. There is a dark patch / glue visible to the back of the canvas, and a probable repair to the bottom centre. Frame has chips and losses.
A modern limed oak dining room suite comprising D end refectory style dining table on end pillar supports united by a centre stretcher, together with eight matching rush seat dining chairs on cabriole legs to scroll feet by Oak Design of Windsor CONDITION REPORTS Some light scratches and impressed marks to top. Some small nibbles and chips, slightly worn sections and various marks. Split running approx 1ft into the table from one end. Chairs have small scratches and general signs of wear and tear. A white painted tavern style settle on plank end supports CONDITION REPORTS Various scratches, knocks, nibbles, chips etc, losses to paintwork. Worn sections to paint. Unknown as to what the paint is hiding beneath. Back has incorporated light sockets, but area is painted over so do not know extent of damage beneath. Seems sturdy, general wear and tear. Would probably benefit from a clean. 183cm wide, 145 cm tall
A box containing a 19th Century rosewood and mother of pearl inlaid jewellery box, a similar jewellery box, a Bridgwater "Hellebore" pattern butter dish, five bistro glasses, a pair of plated bottle coasters, a Tollware twin-handled planter and a modern enamelled bread bin CONDITION REPORTS Butter dish has light wear and hairline crack across lid. Glasses scratched and worn, one glass with crack from foot to the top and a small crack on foot. All have firing faults. Coasters - one has a crude repair, both plating is worn and pitted. Both boxes have significant splits, wear. Lacquer box is peeling Enamel bread bin has wear. Cold painted jardinier is rusting and flaking.
An early Victorian mahogany breakfast table, the oval snap top on a reeded baluster pedestal to hipped splayed quadruped base and lion's paw feet, together with three oval tablecloths (one cream, one green and one burgundy) CONDITION REPORTS top 147.5 cm x 107 cm at widest points & 72 cm tall. In used condition with general wear and some light scratches and impressed marks to top, some splits to the veneer, small old nibbles and knocks to the edges, leg some with worn patches and various small knock and nibbles for general use especially to feet.
St. Helena : (SG 34ba) 1884 QV Crown CA ½d on 6d emerald with part original gum showing DOUBLE SURCHARGE - ONE WITH N Y SPACED - extremely rare with probably only two examples known - complete with 1975 BPA cert stating it to be genuine but not recognising the NY variety and unkindly describing it as 'soiled' whereas this adhesive is of very good to fine appearance, of fine colour and well centred for this issue. Upon the reverse we note trivial imperfections, small blue manuscript (not affecting appearance), partial hinge remnant and light pencil / gum bend. Possibly unique mint part o.g. Great Britain - QV (line engraved) : (SG 45) 1858-79 2d blue, plate 9, block of 9, PJ-RL, centred to SE, scarcer watermark Type 2, four stamps show the so-called Shadow Re-entry, wrinkle on one, natural light horizontal gum bends at bottom, lightly hinged on two stamps only, others u.m. Fine, fresh and very scarce. Premium for block. Well written-up. Cat £3700 (image available)
