Lot 3013

- 1 of 97 built to celebrate Lotus' 50th Grand Prix victory - Factory replacement chassis and Mick Miller solid driveshaft conversion - Brake / suspension / carburettor overhauls and `no advisories' MOT Further Info: A quick internet trawl will yield estimates varying from 86 to 120 as to the number of Elan +2 'John Player Special' models produced by Lotus to celebrate its 50th Grand Prix victory. However, having consulted a marque historian with access to suitable records the vendor believes the precise figure to be 97. As well as sporting one of the most iconic Formula One liveries yet conceived, the limited edition sportscar also boasted: an outside ambient temperature gauge, battery condition indicator, clock, telescopic safety steering column, brake-fail warning lamp, leather steering wheel, passenger map light, auxiliary driving lamps and alloy wheels. The subject of much past restoration work, 'UXF 810M' is understood to have benefited from a genuine replacement Lotus galvanised chassis, Mick Miller solid driveshaft conversion and refurbishment of its desirable 'Big Valve' twin-cam engine. While other fettling has reportedly comprised: an extensive suspension and braking system overhaul, rejuvenated Dell'Orto carburettors, replacement exhaust system including manifolds, recent major service and a fresh `no advisories' MOT. The car appears presentable and usable 'as is' but would stand some cosmetic improvement in terms of its black paintwork and wood veneer dashboard etc (though, the gold metal flake roof remains smart). A rare limited edition example of a great driver's car that (a) has room for a small family and (b) can surely only become more collectable. What's not to like?
