A Chinese celadon glazed vase bearing faux six character Chenghua (1465-87) mark to base, raised on a wooden base, 39 cm high CONDITION REPORTS There are some firing faults and flaws to the glaze and to the construction, most noticeably to the base of each handle. Late Period, 30th Dynasty, Ca. 332 BC.A group of three ushabtis crafted from light blue glazed composition. The front and the back of each ushabti bear a column of hieroglyphs. Each figurine is dressed in the customary attire - tripartite wigs, and false beards. Their arms are crossed firmly over their chests, clutching agricultural tools in their clenched fists. These tools, commonly represented as hoes or picks, symbolize the deceased's commitment to labour in the afterlife. Ca. 2nd Century AD.A gold finger ring of a thin band with a rounded exterior, decorative flared shoulders and an oval-shaped bezel cell set with a dark stone intaglio depicting busts of Sol Invictus with his radiate crown and Luna with a crescent over her head. Sol Invictus, known as the "Unconquered Sun," was a deity worshipped in the Roman Empire, particularly during the later Imperial period. He represented the invincible power of the sun and was associated with strength, light, and victory. Luna, on the other hand, was the Roman goddess of the moon, embodying its serene and mystic qualities. She was revered for her connection to the night sky and was often linked with divination and dreams. Ca. 1st-2nd Century AD.A Roman glass bottle of a light yellow-green colour with warm orange encrustation. The vessel has a tubular rim and short, cylindrical neck that widens into a bulbous body and tapers into a pushed-in bottom. It has an elaborate handle applied at the shoulder and drawn up to the rim which features a folded rigaree type thumb rest. Size: 100mm x 75mm; Weight: 65g Provenance: Ex. The figure has a painted seshet hair fillet adorning a tripartite wig. The arms are crossed, with two long objects clasped in the hands, likely hoes. The figure is flat backed and has a black, painted hieroglyphic inscription running down the front. Shabtis were servant figures that were placed in Egyptian tombs, that carried out the tasks required of the deceased in the afterlife. Inscriptions on the front of such figures usually denoted the name of the owner and included a phrase sending them to action. Late Period, Ca. 664-332 BC.Fashioned from light faience, this ushabti of the mummiform stands atop a petite and flat base. The hands are elegantly folded across the chest, firmly grasping agricultural tools. The finely detailed head displays a wig and a distinguished false beard. A column of hieroglyphs is etched along the frontal aspect. Ushabtis, 'the answerers', were miniature figurines buried within tombs, often in large quantities. Their purpose was to serve their deceased owners in the afterlife, with the prevailing belief that they would spring to life and undertake various manual labours and tasks on behalf of the departed. Late Period, Ca. 664-332 BC.An amulet formed in the shape of a papyrus column known as Wadj or papyrus sceptre. It has been crafted from a light faience with a suspension hole. This amulet depicts a rolled papyrus scroll and was used as a protective amulet to provide the deceased with eternal youth in the afterlife. Cf. Andrews, C., 1994. North Africa, Ca. 400-500 AD.A fine pottery oil lamp The Atlante X; Hayes II A type. The lamp stands on a low ring foot, and its recessed tondo features a relief decoration of a dancer. The perimeter of the tondo is adorned with an intricate design of flowers and rosettes that adds to the lamp's aesthetic appeal. The lamp also features a lug to the back and two holes in the tondo, which served as filling holes. The long channeled nozzle of the lamp has a spout for a wick, and its shape is designed to minimize spills and maximize light output. The dancer's pose is suggestive of a ritual dance, which may have been performed during religious ceremonies or social gatherings. For a similar, see The Getty Museum, Inventory Number 83.AQ.377.529. Late to Ptolemaic Period, Ca. 664-30 BC.A beautiful mummiform ushabti decorated with a light blue glaze and applied black pigment on the triparttite wig and Osiran false beard. There is also some remaining black pigment on the chest. This ushabti is flat-backed, resting against a pillar and standing atop a square base with crossed arms. Ushabti's were mummiform dolls buried with the deceased, often in great numbers. Their main function was to ensure the individual's comfort and freedom from daily labour in the next life.
