FLIGHT LIEUTENANT MATTHEW HOLLIDAY D.F.C., Flight Engineer for Bomber Command who completed fifty two combat missions, his medals and extensive archive, comprising Distinguished Flying Cross, 1939-45 Star, Bomber Command Clasp, Air Crew Europe Star with France and Germany Clasp, Africa Star with North Africa 1942-43 Clasp, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45, Bomber Command Medal 1985, Normandy Campaign Medal 1987, Battle of Britain Medal and U.S. Flying Wings, together with his flight log books, engineer`s log book, an album of war time and later photographs, certificate of service and release, a detailed account by his Tail Gunner of a 1943 Berlin bombing raid, other certificates, a quantity of equipment and uniform including goggles, leather helmets, gloves, mask and boots. A considerable archive of personal records from Holliday and his colleagues and a quantity of general ephemera. Also included are his father`s (Pte. J.N. Holliday of the Durham Light Infantry) WWI medals comprising British War Medal and Victory Medal (Illustrated)

Some light scratching and wear to glaze. Hairline crack running from top through pierced holes. A couple of the holes have chips to them. Mounts tarnishes. A Greek terracotta figure 4th-3rd century BC,of a lady, probably an Amazon, with her right breast bared, wearing a short chiton and cloak flowing out behind, hairstyle gathered behind and fronted with a slight floral diadem, she rides a horse bareback to the left, 19cm CONDITION REPORT: Lower right arm missing, likewise left hand and left foot with only the remains of her high boot remaining. Head re-attached, susbstantial amount of light blue paint remaining on the flowing cloak
Two World War I medals awarded to 2nd Lieutenant Graeme Cecil East Smithett, The War Medal; The Victory Medal 2nd Lieutenant Graeme Cecil East Smithett of the Royal Flying Corps 57th Squadron, formerly of the Northamptonshire Regiment, was killed in action on 12th October 1917, aged 20, and is buried in the Roeselare Cemetery, East Flanders in Belgium. He was the only son of Lt Col Henry Cecil East Smithett. CONDITION REPORT: Light wear - ribbon faded

Small area of damage to right side has been retouched. Marks from stretcher bars visible on front of painting. Surface scratches and surface dirt. A 5" Gauge 0-4-2 'Lion' and 2 axle Tender built by an Engineer approximately 25 years ago to LBSC's design. Coal fired with twin internal cylinders with sprung wheels. Built to a high quality standard and is sold with its original Boiler Certificate dated 3rd February 1987. Known to have had light use but in recent years has been on display. A purpose built glass display case and length of track is included in the Lot.
