An incredibly rare original WWII Second World War Lancaster bomber Bomb Aimer's panel light ' Lamp Cockpit 5C/366 '. This lamp would've been mounted just above the bomb aimer's panel to aid sight during night raids. The lamp features a movable cowl that controls the amount of light, and still features its original red glass lens. The lamp measures approx; 13cm long when extended. Supplied within its original box. The lamp has been autographed by 617 Squadron veteran and bomb aimer John Bell, the box autographed by Bell and last surviving Dambuster George Johnny Johnson, and the ensemble is presented upon a presentation base autographed by both Bell and Johnson in black marker. A rare surviving relic and important piece of aviation history. NOTE: Proceeds from this lot are being donated towards the ' Attack On The Sorpe Dam ' film project. The film tells the story of the famous Dambusters raid of WWII, and features testimony from George 'Johnny' Johnson himself. A preview of the footage completed so far, as well as an appearance by George 'Johnny' Johnson, is taking place on February 9th at The Watershed Cinema in Bristol. A fascinating WWI First World War autograph book, from the Searle Family collection. The book appears to belong to one of the girls of the family (from Bristol) - Rose. The book is filled with poems, drawings and ditties - largely from her Brothers who were serving in the war (namely John "Jack" Searle - whose effects are in the preceding lot). The book also contains poems from soldiers - possibly obtained from a hospital, where some of the Searle family worked during the war. Some entries include;'To all the Soldiers in the trench. The British, Russian & The French,Use 'England's Glory' for a light,And if you don't - well, Servia' right!''We are but little soldiers weak,The more we do, the more we eat,The more we do, the more we may,It makes no difference to our pay!'In some instances, there are tracings / hand drawn copies of silk postcards sent home. Many of the earlier sketches are signed 'JNS' (John N Searle). Many of the poems could be considered saucy or risque. A real insight into the humour of the time. A fascinating local interest autograph book.

GLASGOW SCHOOL, ATTRIBUTED TO JOHN NISBET (1868-1951)ART NOUVEAU OAK DOOR, CIRCA 1900 with later central clear glass panel enclosed by carved stylised plant forms, above plain panels and fitted with opposed and decorative embossed copper door plates, one with inscription PAX INTRANTIBUS222cm x 97cmLiterature: The Studio Yearbook, 1906, page 136 where similar doors are illustratedNote: The design of the present oak door and design of the preceding lot demonstrate similarities to doors designed by the architect John Nisbet for 'Kelmscott', built for Sir John McTaggart, a Glasgow property developer and builder, in 1900. The house is now a Grade B listed building and retains many of its original features, including an impressive installation of stained glass by Oscar Paterson who also designed stained glass for the doors. Nisbet, a long-time collaborator with Mactaggart, had been a student and classmate of Charles Rennie Mackintosh at Glasgow School of Art. For this commission he incorporated Scots Baronial and English Queen Anne elements in his design, and the house was decorated and furnished with pieces from the leading Arts & Crafts designers and artists of the day, including Frank Brangwyn, from whom Mactaggart is said to have commissioned two paintings. Nisbet was McTaggart's principal architect and together they were instrumental in the residential development of Glasgow's West End, where no less than 300 tenements were built by his company at the end of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century.Further evidence has come to light that this door (and by extension the door in lot 263) have been used in buildings designed by other Glasgow architects including the celebrated architect James Salmon (1874-1924) (or his firm Salmon, Son & Gillespie) in a house interior at 12 University Avenue, built around 1900 and now part of a run of general University of Glasgow buildings (see illustration of a door very similar to this lot in situ at University Avenue with original glass). Like 'Kelmscott' the building also was fitted out with stained glass by Oscar Paterson.

Felix Summerly was a pseudonym used by Henry Cole (1802–82), who worked closely with Prince Albert on the organisation of the Great Exhibition, and later the South Kensington Museum. Benson was admired in the arena of the Avant Garde in Europe and his work was sold through the influential Maison de L’Art Nouveau in Paris. The magazines The Studio, Art et Decoration and Dekorative Kunst all regularly featured his work. The Studio Magazine observed that WAS Benson’s lamps “may ultimately influence the taste of a greater number than the superb Morris-Burne Jones tapestries” whilst The Magazine of Art referred to his lamps as “palpitatingly modern”.Walter Crane in “The Bases of Design” marked W.A.S. Benson’s lamp with a finned copper shade as a good example of modern design. The Studio Yearbook of 1906 praised his experiments with reflectors, as in this example. Hermann Muthesius in his influential book “ Das Englische Haus” stated that WAS Benson was “the first to illuminate dining room tables with light reflected from a shiny metal surface, while keeping the actual source of illumination hidden”.

'On the 9th February 1875, Major Charles Le Mesurier Carey, brother-in-law of the undersigned, Vice President of the Asylum Board, in which capacity he had charge thereof, obtained by surprise, or, bought, at all events obtained from Dr A. It was proved to be a complete falsehood, and Carey was awarded £50 in damages, and Tupper was fined £50. Carey passed away in 1905, his death was announced in the Army and Navy Gazette.
