Samuel Bough RSA (1822-1878), oil on canvas, "Ullswater from Gowbarrow Park". 54 cm x 71 cm, framed, signed and dated 1843 (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This painting has come to us from a local estate. It is in extremely good condition with no serious issues that we can see. The painting has been relined and presumably cleaned and restored at the same time. We would image that this will have been between 20-30 years ago. We have looked at the painting under a UV light and there are some small traces of restoration to the paintwork particularly in the sky. This is however fairly minimal and in our opinion not problematic. The painting is in a modern but traditional frame which is in first class condition. The picture could be hung in its present state without the need for any work.
Samuel Bough RSA (1822-1878), oil on board, "Haweswater". 35 cm x 55 cm, framed, inscribed on reverse "Haweswater, Sam Bough 1844, an early ?, bought from the artist by Thomas Parkin" (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The painting appears to be in generally good condition. The painting is on board. The board is flat and not warped. There is no significant paint loss. We have looked at the painting under a UV light and there appears to have only been one small 4 cm x .5 cm scratch that has been overpainted in the sky above the right hand tree. The frame is late Victorian and in reasonably good condition. There are cracks at the joins in the corner and there has been some overpainting. The frame is perfectly serviceable however.
A Minton jade green Drunken Silenus relief moulded jug, 19th century, with applied sprig mark to the underside and impressed "No. 19". Height 20 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The figure seated upon the ass has a chip to his foot. The reverse rim has a tiny 7 mm x 5 mm slither missing which shows as a small light patch on the rim. Other than those faults mentioned there are no further obvious faults.
A light amber coloured glass mosque lamp, late 19th/early 20th century, with trailed blue calligraphic and geometric band decoration, with three suspension lugs supported by chains and with lower drop pendant with applied blue prunt Width approximately 28 cm, height 36 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: On one shoulder there is a very fine surface scratch approximately 9 cm long. We do not believe this to be a crack as it cannot be felt on the interior. One of the suspension lugs has a firing flaw leaving a small fingernail patch of the surface slightly raised and slightly grazed. The suspension wire holding the lower globe has been replaced. Other than those mentioned there appear to be no further obvious faults.
An opalescent glass fruit bowl with moulded decoration and registration number 777135 and two early 20th century table light shades, 21 cm diameter, 16.5 cm and 14 cm diameters CONDITION REPORT: The glass bowl is in good order throughout with no obvious faults. The Vaseline glass shade is in good order throughout and rings out nicely when tapped. It has been ground down were the light fitment would attach and there are small insignificant nibbles. The white trailed glass lamp shade is in good sound order throughout and rings out nicely when tapped. There is however a small black foreign body within the glass which is evident when looking at the interior. This is approximately 2 mm x 1 mm in size and is in fused into the glass.
An Asprey & Co silver plated hot plate, late 19th century, the removable top stamped with a crown above Asprey London within a rectangular frame, with 3 burners, each piece struck for Asprey London and with wicker bound handles, all upon squat ball feet. Overall length including handles 78.5 cm, height 13.5 cm, depth 23.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The canework binding to one handle is perished in the centre and there are losses. The hotplate supporting framework is in very good structural order but is extremely dirty and showing light signs of surface pitting. We are not sure as to the condition of the plate but it is likely that the original plated finish may well be at least partially missing. The three burners all operate as they should from a mechanical point of view. All three are very badly tarnished and have surface pitting and staining. They are all marked “Asprey”. The aluminium plate is marked “Asprey” to both sides and again shows signs of surface pitting and marks.
A pair of Sevres style vases and covers, late 19th century, each decorated with courting couples after Louis Remy Robert, and within raised gilt C scroll Rococo decoration, the reverse with landscaped vignettes, all against a royal blue ground, the lids similar with landscapes within Rococo gilt scrolls, pseudo Sevres mark to the underside. Height 12 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: One cover has been broken in half and glued but is free of any chips. The other cover has a very small chip to the rim approximately 2 mm in length. On first glance the main vases appear to be in good order. However on the vase with the seated couple with the gentleman wearing a red overcoat the gilding at the very top has flaked off and been replaced with a light yellow. The remainder of the raised gilding appears to be in good order. On the reverse panel the gilding framing the scene is 50% erased. Its companion vase has the same fault to the tip of the main gilding but not to the same extreme. The gilding to the reverse image is 20% rubbed and not as bad as its companion piece. Both vases appear to be free from any chips or cracks.
A Sitzendorf porcelain figure group, early 20th century, modelled as a male and female dancer, their legs and arms outstretched, both scantily clad, factory marks to the underside. 19 cm high. CONDITION REPORT: Both pairs of hands have been over sprayed which would signify restoration and also on the ladies skirts ends which attach to the wrist. There is a good 35% of the gilding erased from her skirt. There is a small amount of rubbing to the rear of the gentleman's thong. There is a small light brown blemish to the inside of the calf of her left leg.
Three late Georgian blue Bristol glass decanters, two rum, one brandy. Heights +/- 20 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This comprises a pair and a single bottle. The brandy bottle has very light surface scratches and light rubbing to the gilding but otherwise appears free from any major faults. Its companion rum bottle has light rubbing to the gilding, light surface scratches but appears to be free from any major faults. The single rum bottle has a single rivet repair to the rear of the neck with a further two holes to either side of the cracks where rivets are now vacant. The crack is approximately 3.5 cm in diameter and 2.5 cm deep. Other than that the remainder of the body appears to be in good order. Each of the stoppers are ever so slightly misshapen but intact. All silver plating is erased.
A Japanese cloisonne oil lamp, early Meiji period, decorated throughout with phoenix amongst blossoming flowers against a blue ground, overall height 39 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This vase has previously been fitted for electricity. There is a hole in the side of the base, a hole to the centre of the base and the fitting to the top of the reservoir would be to take an electric light fitting. The cloisonné is in good order throughout with no obvious chips, dents or bruises. However there is the usual sign of nibbles where the centre section joins the base.
Two Chinese paintings on silk, 19th century, depicting birds amongst trees above either blue chrysanthemums, peony and rock work, all against a gilded ground and mounted in ebonised frames, 194 cm x 72 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The panels are backed onto board. They have a small amount of bubbling and the silk has not adhered to the backing. Panel No 1 is the panel with the bird in the top right hand corner - the bird has small sections of paint missing. Surface marks and light scratches throughout, a lot of which are too insignificant to mention. Two of the flowers at the centre of the picture appear to be lightly rubbed. Where the branch breaks into a Y shape, some of the paint is missing. There is also a bird at this break which also has paint missing. There are notable small scuff marks to the bottom of the painting. The companion panel has dark patches at the top of discolouration. It has small surface scratches and small paint losses to the upper quarter. Both panels appear to be free from any obvious tears or restorations. They are a very delightful pair of panels.
A Satsuma vase by Gyokuzan, Meiji period, decorated with panels of immortals, warriors and ladies against a brocaded ground beneath a wide band of fans, gilt Shimazu Mon and six character mark. Height 18 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: There is a tiny 7 mm strip along the rim of the vase where the dark ground has been rubbed away leaving only the gilt decoration, this shows through to the white body underneath. There is very light gilt rubbing throughout but nothing that would be too detrimental. The interior rim glaze is crazed and light brown stained. The underside has good marks The surrounding body is crazed and dark stained. This should be visible from the online images. Otherwise there appears to be no obvious cracks, chips or restorations.
A Chinese terracotta brush pot, circa 1900, slab form, with relief moulded faux bamboo borders and Sgraffito panels decorated with either figures, characters or plants, impressed circular seal mark to underside. Height 14 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The top corner edges are a light buff colour but are not chipped merely rubbed. There is a 5 cm firing crack to one panel. A Japanese cloisonne vase and cover, Meiji period, with Kiku knop above the hexagonal body with panels of floral mons upon a waisted circular foot all within gilt metal borders and having a green enamel interior, with carved wood stand. Height minus stand 10 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The knop has been off at some point and has been stuck to the underside with mastic. The lid appears to be in good order throughout with no dents or losses. The body has light rubbing to the gilding on the edges but otherwise appears to be free from any flaws. The wood stand appears to be in good order throughout.
A Troughton and Young Ultralux wall light, circa 1930, with milk glass globe and chromium plated mount and a similar ceiling light with milk glass and chromium mount (unmarked), height 21.5 cm and 17 cm respectively CONDITION REPORT: Both domes are in good order. Both are a different shade of white to one another. The wall mounted example has a fitting to accept electrical cables but none are evident. The chromium is basically in good order although it has a pitted effect but is still intact. The other light fitting has no wire or electrical attachments.
Edward Horace Thompson (1879-1949), watercolour, "Veiled Light, The Grampians at Boat of Garten, Argyllshire". 25 cm x 39 cm, framed, signed (see illustration). The mount is a little discoloured and the glass slightly loose in the oak frame which itself is in reasonable order.

The matt ground bowl has tiny nibbles on the interior rim but is in otherwise good order. The dark green jug has all the gilding rubbed off the rim and a tiny rim chip. The small light green jug with half matt ground has the majority of its gilding missing but appears to be free from any chips. The frilled edge jug appears to be in good order throughout with no obvious faults. The blue jug is in good order but has light gilt rubbing. The barrel form jug is in good order however there is a small nick on the inside rim which I believe to be a firing fault. The gilding is rubbed on the rim and also on part of the body. The large jug has a lot of the gilding rubbed but appears to be free from any chips or cracks. The twin handled vase appears to be in good order throughout, however the gilding at the top has been mostly erased. The cover on the bowl and cover has small nibbles all around the rim. The bowl also has tiny nibbles around the rim but nothing that one may class as detrimental.
