A complete and original British Royal Mint proof set 1887 in near perfect condition, comprising the four gold coins, five pounds, two pounds, one sovereign and half sovereign, and the seven silver coins one crown, four shillings, half crown, florin, shilling, sixpence and threepence. They are in their original case of issue. The five pounds has very fine hairlines in the field on both faces, from handling. The double sovereign/two pounds is almost untouched. The sovereign and half sovereign are very free of hairlines; the sovereign has some marks on the obverse field at 3 o'clock, while the half sovereign reverse has a small brown spot at 9 o'clock and a small imperfection on the F of FID. The silver coins from crown down to shilling also have very fine hairlines, while the sixpence and threepence are essentially untouched. There is typical light toning. The half crown, florin and sixpence have a finger mark on the obverse, and the shilling, sixpence and threepence have rather darker even cabinet toning.
